I just had a couple of questions about networking. I have a Belkin wireless network to share my internet with my sister's computer. I've decide to switch from wireless to wired, and I have the ethernet cable to do so, however, if I hook up the ethernet cable from her computer to the wireless router, would it still be considered a wireless connection since it would be hooked up to a wireless router? Also, if I were to decide to buy a different modem besides Belkin, would I need to install that modem on my computer, since a network connection through the Belkin modem has already been set up, or could I hook it up to work right away? I had to replace my old Belkin wireless router months ago with a different Belkin router, and it worked with no need for the installation CD and no problem, but I wondered if a conflict could be presented with a router from another company. Thank you for those who can provide answers!

I presume the Belkin router has at least 1 LAN port. If it has at least 2, you plug the straight cat5 patch cables to pcs and to the LAN ports of the Belkin. Turn off wireless on the Belkin by logging into it and shutting off wireless. You now have a wired network.

Now if you have only 1 wired LAN port with the Belkin, buy a 10/100 network switch (4 port is fine). Plug pcs into it and run a cat 5 straight patch cable from Belkin LAN port to the network switch. You now have the wired network.

no since it would be connected by a wire it would no longer be a wireless connection

with a wired connection I doubt you'd have any problem setting it up though it is possible you may need to install software but unlikely.

Also I have to ask why would you switch from wireless to wired? If you're worried about security you just need to setup encryption on your router and you're virtually just as secure as you were with the wired connection.
