I suspect your talking about the ENCRYPTION KEY for secured wireless? Maybe, perhaps?

To get that you have to log into your wireless router and check the page with the Wireless security tab. Some routers wont let you read the key but on those you can enter a new combination that you do know and then use that same combination at the PC end to connect.
Check your routers documentation or manufactures website for full details on securing your wireless router! This is called WEP or WPA.

If you dont have access to the router, you need to ask the router owner for the key.

Are you looking for your IP number or MAC address?
You can find both here:

For Windows users:
Start / Control Panel / Network Connection

Right click on "Local Connection" and select "Status".
Click "Support" tab and finally "Details".
All of your info is right there to include your gateway info, DNS and WINS server info (if any).

For Mac users with OS 10.4:

Click on "System Prefs" on your dock, click on the "Network" Icon. Your status will be the first to show up. In the "Show" drop-down menu, select "Built-in Ethernet".
Your TCP/IP info is there and you MAC address is listed under the "Ethernet" sub-menu.

Hope this helps.

a network hex number, he must be talking about his MAC address. an IP address is just four 8bit base10 numbers.

go here for instructions on finding your MAC address http://www-dcn.fnal.gov/DCG-Docs/mac/index.html
