Ok, is it trying to aquire a signal, or does it say it is connected with a good signal? The way you wrote this has me a tad confused.
If it continually states it is trying to aquire an IP address, it is possible your firewall software is causing a conflict. I had this issue on several occasions, once when I first installed my router, and then later on when my firewall had a automatic program update. It turned out that a newly added component to my network connections properties was causing the issue, once, the most recent issue, and the other was when my firewall was not compatible with the encryption format of WPA.
Try going into your connections properties and checking if there is some sort of addition to them. Mine is Panda, and it is the Panda IM filter which I can't use with my router. I had to remove the check mark in front of that component, in order to reastablish my connection. This was a newly added component when Panda updated their firewall program.
Now, if you are using security in your router, ALL of your devices need to use the exact same security or there won't be any connectivity wirelessly. You need to be sure that all can handle WPA or WPA2. If you are not sure, try WEP, because it is a lot older and everything is compatible witht that now. Once you change your security settings in the router, you will temporarily lose your Internet connectivity until you add the new encryption type and password to each network connection properties. You do this by running the Wireless Network Connection Wizard.
Here is some troubleshooting information, preview it carefully and follow different links to different information.

If this does not fix your issue, you may want to also contact the Netgear technical support line. You should have a phone number in your manual. If you no longer have the manual, go to the netgear website, follow the links to your versions downloads page and download the manual. You will probably need a PDF Reader, if you don't have one get the free one at Adobe. http://www.adobe.com
Good luck and much success fixing your connectivity issues and please have a nice holiday season.
