you do need a network.

install a nic in each computer and connect with a crossover cable, conifigure internet connection shareing.

better way.
install a nic in each computer, buy a hub or router, connect each machine to the hub or router, conifigure internet connection shareing.

No, you cannot do that...the two modems will conflict. You would have to buy a separate Internet line to hook up a second modem.

If you want both PCs to use the Internet, the easiest and best way is to get a router, but if you REALLY don't want one you will need to set up Internet Connection Sharing on the main computer and then run a PC-to-PC network between the two. That is much more difficult and doesn't work as good either.

Routers are very cheap and are actually good because they give you another layer of protection from hackers.

that's plausible to apply a under pressure out router, and easily run an ethernet cable between the two desktops. that would artwork a lot greater effective than prompt. despite the fact that, this isn't logistically sound, because of the difficulty of working the cable.

Get a non-wireless router. You should be able to get one for less than $20.

no way, for broadband, your modem's mac id is registered with the company. Getting a new modem will not work, and if you register the new modem, you need to pay other charges.

Assuming your first computer is connected via an Ethernet cable - you can use an Ethernet splitter.

You can not use a splitter. Buy a cheap switch or hub.
