I have just bought a buffalo wbmr-kg54 modem router to set up a network. My old wire modem is connected to the phone line and then to my computer via a usb connection. However when i connect the router i cant establish an internet connection. Therefore when i try to go to the configuration page 192.168.11.1 i cant because there is no connection. Similarly when i use the old modem there is an internet connection but i am unable to go to the configuration page as it return page is not available. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have been stuck on this for about 2 weeks. Please help!!!!

Unplug and lose the old modem. Then plug the router into the ADSL filter on your phone line. Wait 'til its set itself up then connect your laptop to it. If your laptop has a wireless card then it will pick it up automatically,(click on the screen icon on the bottom right hand side of the screen) if it doesn't then you will need an ethernet cable to connect your laptop to the router.

The page 192.168.11.1 is built into the router and is not in fact a page on the Internet. As long as you have a connection between your PC and router when you type in that URL into explorer on the address line it will open the configuration utility within the router and you can set up the parameters so the router can then in turn connect to the Internet trough the ADSL connection.

The best way to connect to the router in the first instance is with an Ethernet cable as unless you have a wireless card in the PC which is configured the same as the default wireless configuration within the router then it will not connect. Connect the PC and router through Ethernet ports and you can then also configure the wireless networking set up and disconnect the ethernet cable.

Obviously you ain't reading the documentation that came with your Buffalo, or you haven't contacted the tech support. I think you need to hard-wire connect your router to your computer first before you can establish a wireless connection.
