I have two PC's on a network, one of them needs to access files from the other. When I ping the slave machine the PC gets a reply but I cannot see the hard drive to be able to get the files I need. I have created a shared folder for these files
and my mac can see the PC shared folder. What am I doing wrong.

Frequently this is a firewall issue, have you opened the firewall? Are you attaching to it through URL or the IP address? If you are using the URL whats doing DNS for you?

Sometimes with good ol Windows you just have to kick start the network. If you can PING the IP then you are talking which is good and will let you connect. Try connecting using the IP and the share name! It usually works and once it does so does the "normal" way!
To try the IP connect open Search, then "computers or people" then Computers. In the box just enter \\IP address\sharename and let the machine search. If it finds it (it probably will) then your are done.
If it doesn't connect or find the comupter recheck the FIREWALL settings on BOTH machines. Be sure they are allowed LOCAL NETWORK sharing and that both machines are within the same WORKGROUP name.
