I have a laptop for work and the settings only let me access the internet via dial-up at home. It does have a wireless card installed. How can I change this so that I can use my wireless router instead?

If you are using Windows XP:

Open your "My Network Places" folder

Look at the panel on the far left, and click on the "Set up a wireless network for a home or small office" link.

1. Uninstall the dial up software, if it is AOL you are in for a long day.

2. Configure the router to communicate with your Laptop. To do this call the router manufacturer (Linksys, D-Link, Etc).

3. Do a Network Boot:
---Power off your Laptop, Unplug power from Modem & Router
---Replug power to Modem--wait for all the lights to come back on
---Replug power to Router--wait for all the lights to come back on.
---Turn on Laptop

When Laptop is back on you should be online.

You also may have to change some settings in Internet Explorer

At the top click Tools - Internet Options - Connections
In the box under Dial Up and Virutal Private network settings, remove anything in that box, it should be blank.

Then change the dot to "never dial a connection".
