Insurance & Registration - January 2007

My dad gave me a his car! I got into a car accident last week beacuse the breaks were bad and I slid into a ladies back. Later on in the week i found out he had no car insurance since JUNE! The lady is threatening to take me to small claims court for the money but I had no idea the car had no insurance so this isn't my fault. and there is talk of taking my licence from me since I was driving an uninsured car. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do and can give me some legal advice? Thanks!

If I were to get a truck and the past owner did not pay the taxes on it for several years, would I have to pay the taxes for all them years when I go to put it in my name?

got it insured straight away but they said that it would take 5 working days for policy to arrive. as the previous owner was disabled ive been asked to got to DVLA office to pay road tax and they need the insurance policy before i can pay tax. can i drive the car waiting for the policy to arrive or should i keep it parked till i can pay the road tax.

Summons - for a traffic offence?
What normally happens if you have been issued with a court summons because of driving through a red light? I wish to plead not guilty as the light was on amber as I passed. I have been told to send back the summons saying I plead not guilty and attaching a statement. Still slightly worried about the outcome!

why is it so damn complicated to get your drivers license in ohio. 1st you have to pay $22 to get a damn temp packet then wait in line to take your driving test then ohio has a law where you have to have insurance. it sucks here.

I crashed my moms car and I am totally at fault. The thing is the car and insurance is under her name. Am I covered??

A friend of mine had his car stolen at gun point and was forced to sign over the tittle to the car. The thieves repainted the vehicle and resold it on the streets. My friend reported the vehicle stolen and was recovered by the authorities. After the car had been recovered, it was sold to me, but the title still shows the new owners name of the person that had bought it after it had been repainted and sold on the streets. How can my friend get title back in his so he can sign over the title to my name? What are the steps he has to do? What is the turn around time?

I have an international license that I got in Nevada. This is not a Nevada license it is an international license and I am from Mexico. Hello every body
I rear ended another vehicle in freeway 5 north band
It was 1 am and there was no traffic in freeway I rear ended him because he pressed on the brake in the speed lane without any specific reason and when I saw it it was too late and although I pushed the brake it didn’t work by the way I was not even tailgating him because I was going 65 mi/hr and I believe he was already stopped.
I have received the police report that is what is mentioned in the report about the other driver:
He was driving with his suspended driving license under the influence of Marijuana there was a witness who saw him weaving from side to side and also saw that he pushed on brake (she saw the brake lights) and slowed down from 70 mi/hr to approximately 40 mi/hr. the witness says that she was driving 60 mi/hr.
Also he attempted to escape. He didn’t know where he was (he said he was in freeway 91 while we were in freeway 5). He said that he was followed by police officers which is totally untrue and from his imagination.

Now here is the problem since I was going 65mi /hr I could have easily prevented the accident by pushing on brakes since I saw the vehicle soon enough how should I prove that the other vehicle was stopped. In the report the only thing that is mentioned about me is that I was going with the speed that was not good for the condition how ever does not say that I violated any speed limit since I did not.
For all of you guys that are going to say since you rear ended him you were at fault how could I prevented the accident 65mi/hr means more than 100 ft per second how far you usually see at night in freeways?.
By the way it is not again making sense that he can drive over and over with his suspended driving license under the influence of drugs and some poor person like me rear end him and he make some money out of it.
Tell me what you think of the situation. I also hired a good attorney. It is unlikely that he do anything about the accident since I believe he is in jail. By the way I had full coverage insurance on my car and my car is a total loss

I was hit from behind in my car and as a result my car was totaled. The police report says it was the fault of the other driver and his insurance company has already sent out a guy to look at my car. It has been approximately 45 days since the accident and the other guys insurance company says it needs a "statement" from their driver, who is not cooperating and has been unreachable since the accident. My lawyer even gave me a ballpark figure that the insurance company was talking about but, says that I must wait on them to reach their driver. Well if the other driver never shows up how long do I have to wait to get the property portion of the claim, that is to say when will the company have to legally pay for my car?

I was hit a week ago in my car which i have only had for 4 months. I paid 15400 then for the car and the person who hit me insurance is offering 11400 for car, it was toteled. THey say they just pay the blue book value. I live in missouri and i was wondering if they are just saying that to get off paying what i deserve or if that is the way things are done. Last year I was caught speeding in a hire car in Ireland.

I was fined and sent a letter telling me I had two points on my licence. However the paper part of my licence was not requested and I do not believe that there is any reciprocol agreement between the Irish and UK police over this issue.

Am I obliged to advise my car insurance over this issue? No points appear on my license and only a letter from the Irish Police exists which has been lost.
