It really depends on the wordings in your policy. I don't know about your insurance, but in Manitoba there is normally a 30 day limit on replacement transportation. You will really have to check your wordings or confirm them with your broker.

If your car is stolen and not recovered or was damaged and is deemed a total loss, a limit is placed on the amount of time the insurance company will pay for a rental car while you make arrangements for a replacement vehicle. 14 days is not unreasonable and is pretty much the standard. Within 14 days you should be able to find and purchase a replacement vehicle.
If your car is damaged and is repairable, the dollar estimate of the repairs also includes a time estimate of repairs.
For example, removal and replacement of a bumper cover may take 2 hours, painting and blending new bumper cover may take 12 hours (drying time is included in all paint work), replacement of tailights may be 1 hour. The total is 15 hours. A body shop work day is calculated to be 8 hours. Therefore, the above repair would estimate as 1 day 7 hours (most shops and insurance companies would round up to 2 days). The insurance company would allow 2 days, perhaps 3 at the very most for a rental if you had to make special arrangements to facilitate the dropping off of the rental vehicle and picking up the repaired vehicle during shop hours.
However, it is not unusual in the tear down process to find additional damage which may take additional time and require a supplemental estimate. For example, in removing a bumper cover it may be found that the bumper supports are damaged. That could add another 2 to 3 hours to the estimate.
If additional damage is found in the tear down process the time required to repair the additional damage would be added to your allowed time in the rental vehicle.
Also, additional time be added due to parts availability.
However, most insurance companies do have a limit to the number of days or the total dollar amount for which they will pay for a rental vehicle. I have personally seen limits of 10 days, 14 days, 20 days and 30 days. Any time in the rental vehicle over the limit allowed by the insurance company would be at your own expense.

It is standard practise by most insurance companies, If they organise your repairs it is normally enough time for the work to be done.

Sure, it can happen; it will happen if this is how the policy is written!
