If I were to get a truck and the past owner did not pay the taxes on it for several years, would I have to pay the taxes for all them years when I go to put it in my name?
Thanks

Before buying any vehicle, check your particular state regulations. You should not be responsible for any past taxes.

The state always helps with this type of question. If you are talking about a county tax or property tax, you may not be responsible for paying them, but they have to be paid in most states before the vehicle can be retitled and registered in a different owner. Whether the state, county, town etc., will bill the previous owner and let you title it in your name, I can't tell you because it depends on the state.

Are you asking about the sales tax which you would pay when you register the vehicle. In my state NC we have to pay a county personal property tax on the vehicle every year.I would call the MV office and ask them.Hope that this helps.

In most states you just tell the dmv that the vehicle was not running during those years and you can fill out a Certificate of Non Operation. That way you don't owe for back registration
