Summons - for a traffic offence?
What normally happens if you have been issued with a court summons because of driving through a red light? I wish to plead not guilty as the light was on amber as I passed. I have been told to send back the summons saying I plead not guilty and attaching a statement. Still slightly worried about the outcome!

They don't have any proof - no camera. I had a knock with another person on a scooter and his statement says I went through a red light (obvioulsy). the light was definitely on amber.

I would send it 'return receipt requested' and follow up with a phone call -
or go down to the clerks office and personally hand it to them
or - go to traffic school and avoid the points
best of luck

If you have a summons, you should report to court on the date specified, or respond as noted on the summons. Plead "not guilty" and argue that you were on an amber light, not red. It is your word against theirs. The worst that will happen is that you will be found guilty and pay a fine. Worrying will not make the outcome any better, or worse.

Laws vary from state to state and country to country. But in the USA a red light carries a $50.00 fine or there abouts. But you mention AMBER, so I would say you are NOT in the USA. But I would say that this offense is still a misdemeanor. As such you should be able to contest the ticket (summons) There should be instructions on the back side of the ticket/summons. I would suggest you check the summons out and if no instructions then get in touch with your local court magistrate and they can tell you how to contest this summons.

When you send it back pleading not guilty usually they will in turn send you a date to appear in court. I would sent my statement but include that you want a trial. There should be a place for that on the summons...I know there is where we live.

Show to your court date unless the summons says you don't have to. Read the ticket carefully. Every city is different. Not showing for a court date with a mandatory appearance will get a bench warrent issued for your arrest. If you wish to contest this you will have to show eventually. In most cities you have to show more than once to contest a ticket.

If you want to fight it you have to go to court. Find out when the court date is. If you send in the summons with payment that's an admission of guilt.

If you're in the UK, the court can and probably will issue warrants for arrest if you fail to answer a summons. Then it's only a matter of time before trouble looms over the horizon. It only takes being stopped in an innocous police check for them to check and find out, and you can be arrested on the spot and wheeled in front of the court. They won't look kindly on the offence. A summons is an order from the court for you to attend, you see.

unless you pay the ticket you have to show up in court,if u don't they will pull your license and swear out a warrant for your arrest.if you truly feel you are in the right then you need to appear in court to say so.
