Keeping it brief, I am a history buff especially when it comes to Ancient and Medieval Rome. I prefer doing my own sight seeing, but guided tours are OK if that is all there are. I am planning to travel to Germany (I am from Greece) and I have heard that you don't need a passport to do that since both countries belong to the Schengen zone, but the new type of ID cards. I got my ID card in 2000 and my surname, my name and my father's name are written in both the greek and the latin alphabet. The rest data is written with Greek characters. Is this ID card valid for travelling to Germany and other countries of the Schengen zone? Thanks!
