I am a CA native, living in LA now and barely surviving because of the extremely high cost of living and extremely rude people. I am seriously considering relocating in the next few months. Phoenix and Portland are my top two realistic choices, because they are much cheaper than CA, but still modern, popular and relatively close. It is important to have lots of things to do, music, friendly people, a good public transportation system and affordable rent.

I am looking for a nice kirtan to go to in Eugene, Oregon. Visiting there for a week and want to meet with the devotees of the Lord. I am a nonsectarian so I am happy to join anyone who wants to chant the holy names of the Lord.

Hi! My boyfriend and I love to travel. Unfortunately, we're just college kiddos without lots of money to spare. However, we've got a got of energy and a willing spirit to go wherever the wind takes us! As long as the wind takes us within driving distance, of course. We live in Portland, Oregon, and on occasion (about twice a year), we like to pack up the car and drive! We've had lots of fun in Lincoln City, Seaside, and Newport. We'd be willing to drive as far as Seattle, or even farther if necessary. Does anyone have any suggestions for little locations (up to a 4 hour drive from the city) that's worth going to for the perfect getaway vacation? Any suggestions on hotel/things to do while we're there?

Thanks!! :]

I'm concerned that it will be dangerous due to the weather. I know about all that rain up there. How long is the drive anyway?

I've lived in California, Florida, Minnesota and am currently residing in Illinois right near Chicago! I do NOT like it here! The people are WAY too materialistic, no one I've met here cares about the environment or anything else for that matter besides fashion and money. I've always been sort of a drifter but have ALWAYS been drawn to Portland. I handle blueprints for a contracting company now but I'm not an architect. I do have many years of sales experience and working with non-profit organizations. Can anyone tell me if there's sales jobs and affordable housing in or around the Portland area? Also wondering what to do with my car. If I move should I take my vehicle with me or would public transportations suffice? Oh, and does it REALLY rain as much as everyone says? Any feedback you can give me will be very much appreciated! Peace & Love!

However I am concerned about many of the things I hear about the town. It's old scool goodol' boy attitude and it being mostly retirees and I have heard this from more than one different resource. I have also heard it is pretty expensive to live there and that you cannot find a nice home in a nice area for under 300,000 dollars ( we have children so this is important to us.) can anyone give some advice or information on this area. thanks!

I live in Los Angeles area. Recently retired and thinking about moving to Ashland, Oregon. I am under Prop 13 and have very low property taxes. How much are property taxes in this area? Say...around a $300,000 home.? And Homeowners Insurance? Thanks for your help.

It seems like when you compare the US to Canada, it is similar to comparing California to Oregon. You can cross the northern border, and enter a land of hippies and forests. The same goes for the Washington/Oregon compared to the US/Mexico. You can go south and buy things with no sales tax and have your gas pumped for you like a king.

My husband is almost 53 and I am 45. After 35 years on the same job he is about to receive a "buyout" to retire early. We are selling our 2 Tri-plex rental properties that we have taken care of as our future nest egg for the past 22 years as well as our home that we custom design/built in 1992. California is too hot, dry, and the stress level of the "life in the fast lane" of the SF Bay Area has really gotten to us. We want cash out, sell everything, and move to Oregon and be retired. But where? We love trees, lakes, fishing and have just started to take up golf and tennis. We have 1 Jr. College age son and 1 High School Freshman daughter. (Our older daughter is already living on her own and in her senior year of college in California). Oregon seems to be much more affordable and more low key with less stress. Any suggestions?

I'm a seventeen year old girl going to Portland for two weeks to visit my aunt and uncle. They keep asking me what I want to do when I'm there. Seeing as I've never been out west, I really have idea. What are some things, common and uncommon (but fun for a teenage girl), that I should do while in Portland?

Anyone from Tigard or Tualatin? I am wondering if these areas are worth checking into for permanent housing.

I am looking for a good family oriented neighborhood (I don't mind commuting to Portland for work).

I am interested in what these areas have to offer for a young family. Is there a good sense of community in either Tigard or Tualatin?
Any info you can give would be good.
Thanks.
