I've been doing some internet research on the city, and while everything looks great...I figured I'd ask folks that actually live there these questions.

1- How's the metropolitan economy as a whole?

2- Is it a good place to raise and take care of children? (now, I don't have any yet....just asking on the good things I've read)

3- How the mentality of the area? By that I mean....is it open-minded and progressively minded?

Need to be in Salem OR by 08/20/06 can not leave Wilmington NC, until August 15th. I have done the math but still think there is more to it than that. I have driven there from here (NC) 6 times. Never less than 7 days. Thanks, Mike

I've recently been diagnosed with asthma and where I live asthma is rampant (air quality must be contributing to it).
So...since I've been considering moving to the Portland area, I must consider its air quality. What's it like?

My question is more targeted to the city that is more health consious-less pollution, better (cheaper) organic food, less traffic, etc.

I am 30 year old single Male who lives lives in Upstate NY (about hour north of NYC). I am thinking of moving to either Raleigh/Cary North Carolina, Virginia Beach/Chesapeak Virginia, Pheonix /Mesa Arizona,or Eugene/Portland Oregon. I am currently unemployed, have about $6,000 bank saved from my last job, and looking to move to maybe one of these places and start over. I have Bachelors degree in Political Science and have four years of experience in town government assisting a Town Council. However, I am willing to take any old job just to pay the bills. Looking for a change of pace. I am open to other places as well. I am looking to move somewhere where the people in general are nice, laid back, there are things to do (museums, clubs, art galleries, etc..) and the weather does not get too cold (no long stretches of minus 0 degrees), and their are ample job opportunities and rents are reasonable.

I am visiting this October. What are some must see, places or shows to attend, or event, natural parks, museaums, free events. I love the fall, what will the weather be like. I have ordered travel guides, but I would love your opinion. Thank you

The two places I've been thinking to move are Portland/Eugene (Oregon) or North Carolina. I read on a post that teaching in NC can be tough and stressful (with children being disrespectful). I know that it's hard to generalize though...But would teaching be a ton more laid back in Portland/Eugene than in NC?

I need an apartment that is pet-friendly, hopefully near a park, and not a complex if possible. I will be out there around September 15th.

Out of all cities in Oregon, what would you consider the safest. So far one person has told me Tualatin is a nice area, but I would like thoughts from other's as well. Thank you!
