There are the Troutdale Outlets, which are about 20 minutes or so from downtown Portland. They are pretty small, but if you take I-84 all the way out to the Troutdale exit, they're right off the freeway, so it's really easy to find if you don't know the area.

The Woodburn "Company Stores" are about a 45 minute drive from Portland, and they tend to sell mostly higher-end clothing, which may be exactly what you're looking for. It's also right off the freeway (I-5) and incredibly easy to find.

One of the great things about Portland is all the local stores, though. If you want to hang out in the city, you might try some of the many "shopping districts" for clothes and souvenirs. NW 21st and 23rd are nice, and they have both small, local boutiques and big stores like Gap and Pottery Barn. There's also NE Broadway and SE Milwaukie for good restaurants and shopping sprees.

Good luck, and have fun!

There is a nice outlet center just east of Portland on I-84, around exit 16....not sure which exit it is ... but its great.

The one in Woodburn is further away, but newer, and has more shops in it. Exit 271 on I-5.
