Hello
After taking a trip through China in Sept. we are looking for a quiet place to rest and relax after the tour ends in Hong Kong. Any ideas? We would like to make a base some where for a few days and be able to relax, maybe ride bikes and explore. We do not want a big city atmosphere. Something like Hoi Ann in Vietnam would be perfect. Hope someone who know the Hong Kong area has some great ideas. Thanks

I heard of people going traveling and buying stuff from The North Face factory and then selling it when they got back home. Can this really be done. Does anyone have more info? I'm going to SE Asia in a few weeks.

I feel like eating a peking duck. I know this is a travel section but who wouldn't want to eat one when they are in China/HK!?!?

Hi all,

I have a friend working in GuangZhou, China and I want to send him his laptop and cell phone. I was wondering if anyone can answer some questions that I’m unclear about regarding international shipments. Thanks!

1. Are laptops and cell phones a prohibited item to ship to China?
2. If they are not prohibited items, do I have to pay customs/taxes to China?
3. What’s the most economically and safe method to send these packages?
4. Does anyone know if there’s a website which list prohibited items from shipment into China? Or list of items which require tax payment to China customs? I can’t seem to find such a site.

Thanks in advance!

I will be a first time traveller to Hong Kong from Melbourne Australia.
Which hotel would be a comfortable and good quality, and near shopping and day trips.
I am not looking for cheapness, but not over the top either. I like to be close to tourist things, rather than off the beaten track.
I have checked out many on the websites, however experiences and recommendations are usually the best way. Thanks in advance to all who can assist.
Happy New Year.

I've been toying with the idea of bringing my Chinese penpal of 1+ years over for a week's visit. I don't really care about paying for it because its something I really want to do. By the way, it's my idea, not his--he doesn't even know I'm thinking of this yet so don't think he's trying to get a free trip to America out of me.

My question is, how would I go about getting the ticket to him? Would I have to wire the money or just get the ticket put in his name? Also, do websites like Expedia and Travelocity allow you to put a ticket in someone else's name (in this case, my penpal's) despite the fact that I'm paying for it and not him?

I'm a Junior in hs in the usa. White if that matters. I'll just get to the point. I have tourettes and bipolar disorder (co disorders) and im gay. How will those effect teaching english in China?I'm thinking I will go to college here and get a BS in computer science or business and then go to china and be a private tutor and maybe work reelance with my degree through the computer. idk. How about finding a job in China. Being white and native English speaker would it be hard to find a job? Would I need to know Chinese? I do want to learn but I dont want a job that depends on my Chinese fluency. I am very interested in traveling around just teaching english and doing free lance wok online (maybe) if I like it. I def want to get out of the usa and explore and maybe build a life somewhere. Would it be hard to find a gay guy in China or are there online dating sites, gay club and stuf like there is here? Thanks in advance!
