Hello
After taking a trip through China in Sept. we are looking for a quiet place to rest and relax after the tour ends in Hong Kong. Any ideas? We would like to make a base some where for a few days and be able to relax, maybe ride bikes and explore. We do not want a big city atmosphere. Something like Hoi Ann in Vietnam would be perfect. Hope someone who know the Hong Kong area has some great ideas. Thanks

Stay in one of Hong Kong's beautiful outlying islands. There are more than 260 of them, but the most popular and accessible are Lantau, Lamma, Cheung Chau and Peng Chau. On Lantau island, the Silvermine Beach Hotel is a great bargain, not the spiffy ritzy 5-star resort, but not bad at all. Lantau is great for lounging, hiking, walking, etc. Plus, it's just a quick ferry ride away from Hong Kong or Kowloon where you can go easily for a daily quick crowd shower and shopping spree if you want.

You won't regret staying in one of these islands. It's Hong Kong, but as far away as Hong Kong as you can be, with so many attractions, traditional fishing villages, temples, great ocean-side seafood restaurants, lush forests, peaks and secluded beaches to explore...My personal favourite is Lamma Island....

Both Chengchau and Lamma Island would be nice, they are tranquil and show u the other side of HK ~ it's pretty convenient for u to get there by ferry ~ if u are going to stay in HK for 1 whole week, i would recommend u to visit both of them . u can ride bikes, go hiking, swimming, wind-surfing and explore the islands ! besides, if u like seafood, im sure they are the perfect places for u ~ hv fun !

YKphil is correct, however, I also would like to add Yuen Long in the New Territories, it is a not as rush area, unlike Kowloon, another good place is Shatin. You can bike there.

Lantau Island is a perfect place also. You can use the MTR, very convenient!
