Geographically that is untrue. Most areas of China consist of nature : mountains, deserts, grassland, farmland ...

In the areas where most people live together, indeed it looks like one giant factory.

Manufacturing is the main economical activity. Due to the lack of desire to work in factories, everybody went to look for suppliers who want to do it, and at the lowest possible cost. That's why China got into this economic activity full-speed. Since China has many craftsmen, it was rather easy. It is badly seen in China when you don't work, so no problem finding workers !

Many high technological industries also produce in China now, as also the (parts-)suppliers and the infrastructure are abundantly available.

1. Living expenses in China is lower than living in western world. Therefore, they don't have to pay such high salary and hence, reduction of cost and selling prices.

2. Chinese are hardworking people. They can work for many hours and unlike many western countries. I have been to New Zealand and I was shock at their low productivity there. they start to close for business at 7 pm even at McDonalds.

3. China mass produces. The business game now is volume. they have shown the world that even with minimal profits, with huge volume, they can make tons of profits

4. Chinese are good at hardware. A Taiwanese businessman I met recently told me that Chinese, when shown of a product, they can copy them in no time, improve on them and then make them cheaper. Their weaknesses are lack of R&D, ideas and marketing skills. But once they learn them from Japanese, Hong kongers, Taiwanese and Singaporeans, they will be different then!

Over a billion people in China. They get business because it's cheap. They are working for low wages, so they can afford to sell their products much cheaper than American products.

They have over 1.3 billion people. Manufacturing is easier with that amount of available people for labor- and they are less expensive to employ than some other countries.
