I moved from New Orleans about one year prior to Katrina and now am wanting to return, but I need to know from other locals, what is the city like? Has it returned to what it was or has it changed too much to recognize? Also, how bad have insurance rates on houses raised? This will be tremendously important when deciding my price range for a new home. Thank you for all your help.

I think New Orleans is now compared to Manila's Tondo in the Philippines, in New Orleans many people are living in poverty and they have their own "Smokey Mountain" which is located in the Ninth Ward.

Which is worst?

I was just wondering where the majority of the old plantations are located, mostly in terms of their proximity to big cities and swamps. I've only ever been to New Orleans!

I want to know what kind of clothes to pack. Should I even bother to bring shorts? Do I need to bring a coat or jacket?

Any additional information is welcomed!

Also, feel free to add any tourist ideas, etc.

We will be going to Hornets vs. Cavs, DDay Museum, Audubon Zoo & Aquarium, Imax, & a paddle-boat cruise.

Me and my boyfriend are planning a trip to New Orleans in a few weeks and we were wondering where are the best places to stay price wise and in the least crime areas. What are some good hotels in New Orleans for your money and what is there to do and see this time of year? Is the crime bad there?

I'm planning a trip to New Orleans for new years and I heard recently that the city is not safe and the crime rate is high. Should I cancel? I'm staying in the French Quarter, and I figured that as a tourist spot it would be relatively safe. What areas should I avoid? What are some things I can do to keep safe?

I am from the UK, and considering moving to New Orleans next year. I am a theatre and festival producer. Is there a decent arts/entertainment infrastructure in the city these days? Sure, things like Mardis Gras and the Jazz Festival continue, but are there year-round opportunities to work in things linke theatre. Or is there at least a latent audience that would be interested if I worked towards starting a new arts centre down there? Any advice or opinions are most appreciated! This was posted in another section but on advice I'm re-posting here. Cheerio!

Me and 8 of my friends are coming to NOLA for Mardi Gras and I want to eat at some of the best resturants in the city and experiance the best cajun and creole cuisine there is. Can anyone familiar with the city suggest some GREAT resturants to eat at? Also what are some good breakfast places that serve breakfast late and are a good place to cure a hangover? I really love food and would like to know what you think are the best places to eat in the city. We will be staying in the CBD near the Superdome but will travel to Uptown or other parts of the city for good food. So if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated. Thanks....
