I want to know what kind of clothes to pack. Should I even bother to bring shorts? Do I need to bring a coat or jacket?

Any additional information is welcomed!

Also, feel free to add any tourist ideas, etc.

We will be going to Hornets vs. Cavs, DDay Museum, Audubon Zoo & Aquarium, Imax, & a paddle-boat cruise.

I asked this question, "Are people wearing shorts down there?"

If you live in New Orleans, go outside during the day, look around and tell me if you see more than one person wearing shorts.

I am from Cleveland and cold does not bother me at all.

My hotel will be in the French quarter, right in there with the arena and the zoo. Our hotel and alll our activities are located very close so that we wouldnt need to get a rental car. Not trying to risk a DUI. I got to get back to work on the Seventh... cant be in a holding cell!

Pack more summer wear than winter clothing. NOLA right now (as we have had well LONG BEFORE "global warming became a buzzword) has a semi-wintry climate: comfortably cool--with the occaisional cold snap, lasting a few days.

Given your hotel is within walking distance of French Market, check out Jackson Square / French Quarter, Bourbon Street (people whisper "Razzoo's" bar a lot), Pat O'Brien's--a street over, Jax Brewery (now a nice shopping building), and the Riverwalk (nice shopping mall with views of the Mississippi).

Trust me: you'll find plenty to do just in these areas alone.

You'll likely be curious of seeing some depressing epic Katrina damage outside the CBD. Check into taking a established charter bus tour that offers views into this, if you'd like.

You might want to take public bus ride to the Superdome (Canal Street), which costs less than hiring a taxi.

i would bring pants and shorts. lately the weather has been changing like crazy. one day its hot, then the next its cold. the weather may say that its going to be 50 degrees, but when you get outside it could feel like 80 degrees because of the sun.

theres this huge art museum in new orleans and its really fun to explore, i went there 2 weeks ago. i forgot what the place is called though. oh and you should definitely go to the french quarter, but i only been there once since the hurricane and it wasnt too great but i think they might have improved, the french quarter is not too far from the imax theater, you can probably walk there. ummm i would tell you more but it would take forever just go to nola.com, it'll help.

I'm not sure where you are from but in Louisiana the weather is VERY unpredictable! For instance, last night I was freezing outside but I just came inside tonight and was in short sleeves! I think that you are safe not to bring shorts and you will be comfortable in jeans, however, I would pack short sleeves and jackets!

Good Luck! I hope you enjoy the beautiful New Orleans! I would suggest taking a walk in the French Quarter, it's one of my favorite places EVER! It's close to the Aquarium and would be well worth going!

Merry Christmas!

yah bring shorts. It can be very hit or miss. I wear shorts some days now and then wearing pants and a jacket the next. So I would say yes bring shorts, but at night you will definately need pants. Sounds like you have a lot of fun things planned. You will enjoy them all.

YES people are wearing shorts here. It was 71 today and the temperature will be higher Thursday and Friday. But, by the weekend it will cool off some. Yes, bring a jacket, but you never, ever need a "coat" here.
