assuming its the same distance

if i Ran 5 miles as opposed to walked 5 miles, what are the benefits of running? As far as losing weight/building meuscle is it really advantageous to run instead of walk, even if i plan on walking the same distance that i would run.

I'm "training" for a marathon. Actually, I really want to do it, but I don't know any training regimes to get in shape. I ran cross country, and I like running, and I run a couple times a week, but not very far. It's on St. Pat's Day.
Any information about anything even related to marathons would be greatly appreciated!!

I run the mile in indoor track. What should I do to prepare for my race
Hydrate within 30 min of the race?
Warm up jog?
Rest?
Meditate?
I really don't know, but I need to boost my race!

From what I've heard Salazar only had two cups of water during that whole marathon. He eventually stopped sweating during the race and became severely dehydrated before finishing seconds ahead of Dick Beardsley for the victory. It seemed like his body never really recovered. In the months and years following the race he had immune system problems, his running greatly deteriorated, and he was never really the same runner again. And just recently he even had a heart attack.
Was this one race the source of all his problems ? After all it WAS a very grueling race, even for a marathon. Or were there also other factors leading up to it that eventually ended the career of arguably the greatest runner of his time ?
I'm curious to know your opinions.

I really want to go jogging but I left my running shoes at my college campus which happens to be 3 hours away. I do own another pair of shoes that I run in, not to go running in but shoes that I use for soccer practice. I own these...

I ran my first Half Marathon this December. It was the St. Jude's Memphis Marathon and I finished really strong. I am looking for a good first full marathon in the mid to late spring, and wanted to know your thoughts. PLEASE do not reply and say it is too early to do a full marathon, I have already completed a 20 mile long run in a moderately hilly area. I just want to make sure this marathon has good support, runner friendly, and is a good overall experience. There are mixed reviews at http://www.marathonguide.com/races/racedetails.cfm?MIDD=1726060429 but that doesn't mean much to me because there was a lot of criticism about the St. Judes and I thought it was great! Somebody who has run both the Memphis and Louisville Marathon input would be appreciated.

Okay so I am an idiot... I was planing on running/walking a 1/2 marathon on January 7th. Well I kinda forgot about training with finals and water polo. I'm 15 and in really good shape (I play water polo and swim) but I don't know if I should just plan to do it next year or start training and try to do it. What do you think?

Well, just had a meeting for track and practice starts January 28th for the indoor season, thats 1 week before our first meet and I want to be somewhat more prepared.

Our head coach says we are weightlifting 3 times a week (monday wensday saturday)

And I plan on going to weightlifting over winterbreak

My question is. Will weightlifting make me faster? and if so.

What do i do?

(I do SHORT DISTANCE)
