Running is faster and more vigorous. Jogging is more laid-back and paced.

That has bothered me too.
Some people seem to think that they can't manage running but going for a jog sounds easier to them. So most people think think that jogging is running at a slower pace.
I think jogging is more for people who like to chat with they're friends at the same time, and have more fun with it.
While running, is probably more for a person who takes it seriously and goes out for a certain amount of time.

The late Jim Fixx made no such distinction between jogging and running, preferring to define walking as the movement process whereby both feet never leave the ground at the same time. Conversely, he defined running as the movement process whereby both feet are off the ground at some time during the repetitive process; and it had nothing to do with speed. Since jogging requires that both feet be off the ground at the same time during the process, he classified that as running too.

I have always considered jogging to be something that people do as a social activity. It is much slower and easier than running.
Running is faster, harder, and something that people who are serious about competing do.

Some running snobs look down on joggers, but people should do what they wish to do, and you don't have to be a hard core runner who competes and wins races to be considered a real runner, even if you run slow.

I don't know if you've seen any pearl izumi ads, but they answer the question quite well....if you're not sure whether you're running or jogging, run faster....
