Are there some websites that can help me train for the marathon? Maybe some tips on exercises and food that I need to eat to increase my stamina to complete the 26 miles.

I'm about to train for a 5k marathon. I have a schedule I got from runnersworld.com. However, do I train on a treadmill or just run outside? Should I look for track? And if so, how do I keep track of my speed, running outside?

If I can run the 5k under 18 (17:57), do you think i can easily run the 8k under 30 minutes? Because I think that is good enough to win for the 12-14 age group and I want to win something..

I have been running for almost a year now. I run about a mile and a half to two miles, three times a week. I can never seem to make it anymore than that, I get too tired. So, how do marathon runners make it several miles or more?

I want to start training for a 10 mile run that will happen in May of next year. Right now I'm running about 2.5 miles on the treadmill every other day at about 10 minute miles, I know, not that good right now. Can anyone recommend a good training regimen/schedule that will help me succeed in running the 10 miles? thanks

Last year my husband started to take his running really seriously and started entering races and training really hard. He has been in a bunch of 5Ks and two half marathons and he is really enjoying himself. What would be a great gift to get him that would aid him in his training? For his birthday and Father's Day I got him a Garmin and a subscription to a running magazine. Do those "Nip-Guard" things work or do bandaids work as well? Also, what can he use for chafing? Thanks.

Im a freshman this year and I played football, I have also played football in 7th grade and 8th grade. I am a 4 sport athlete(track included) And i was one of our top middle track runners (we won middle school state). I have ran a few 5ks in the past (the last one I ran was last aug. where I ran a 19:20)

Basically I am a am getting pressure to run on our H.S. XC team next year. Our team went to state last year and we had 2 runners place in the top 10. The coaches already plan on me running varsity if (which I plan to) go out. But im afraid I will fail the team and run slow. a 5k is far!!! I need help, a good workout routine, to get me in shape for next fall. I have basketball during the week so I plan on running 2 days a week until that is done. Then we have track, and in the summer baseball. SO I need a good routine for the spring/summer to get me ready for next fall.

Sorry for the long question and all and thanks =]

Okay, ever since I started the tennis running drills (2miles), all running by the way-I noticed that my thighs are feeling sore (obvious i know), but theres another thing. My legs are kinda, and when I pinch ANYWHERE on my leg, there is NO Pinch-able fat AT ALL. It's just hard, any explanations? Is there anything wrong, what should I do?

I have been looking for methods of increasing my sprinting speed only using a treadmill and some weights. I was wondering if doing sprint intervals on a treadmill will work. I found this info on a site:

Treadmill Interval Session (glycolytic 1)
• Sprint Speed: 16-22 km/h (Fastest)
• Recovery Speed: 7-10 km/h
• Incline: 0.5%
• Sprint 60 sec - Recovery 180 sec
• Sprint 40 sec - Recovery 120 sec
• Sprint 30 sec - Recovery 90 sec
• Sprint 20 sec - Recovery 60 sec
• Sprint 10 sec - Recovery 30 sec
• Complete 4 times with 2 min rest between each block (B).

^ I was wondering if this routine could help me with my sprint speed

Okay, so i am a freshman in high school and i run distance. As of right now im running the 1 mile. It is indoor track season and my legs can run me through the race fine, and dont even hurt at the finish. My second race is tomorrow and i plan to run faster then last week. (5:35). My throat was extremely dry which was why i couldnt run my fastest. Any tips on how to deal with that?

I wonder how important the alarms are that are supposed to keep you in your zones, as well as presets for different zones. Since I've never used one, it's hard to know what I will want at first. It sort of seems like I should just get a bare bones inexpensive model that just shows current heart rate. I've seen a Timex I like - comes with Indiglo and you can change the battery on your own. Are all the extra features worth it?

I enjoy running on weekend mornings. But now that it's winter, my hands get a wee bit frosty. I live in Frisco type weather, so I don't need thick running gloves. They must wick away sweat, be lightweight, really thin and should be easy to wash. Any suggestions? I believe the army store sells something, but I can't go there, cause I'm not enlisted... Thanks for all future answers...

My first time out I only made it about a quarter of a mile before I had to stop to a brisk walk. Is this normal and how long does it take to gain more distance in your runs.

At the beginning of the season i was yelled at for not using my arms much. Now i use them alot. Then my indoor track coach tell me that i should not use them as much because it drains my energy, and keep them closer to my hips. now it feels like im barely moving my arms, and I ran slower. He is a nice guy and i dont want to come off as rude if hes wrong...but im not sure if he is or not. I watch the olympics and the runners use their arms as much as i do (5k's)

Why do you "hit the wall" in a marathon around mile 20? I know, that's when you supposedly run out of glycogen. But the numbers I've seen don't make sense:

Your body stores about 2000 calories worth of glycogen, and it burns about 100 calories per mile. So 2000 / 100 = 20 miles.

But I thought running at a moderate pace burns a combination of glycogen AND fat. So why do you run out of glycogen at 20 miles? Wouldn't it take longer?

I have been running consistently now for about 6 months. I run an average of 3 days per week, about 3-3 1/2 miles. When I can I'll run 4 days. It's hard though because I have 3 kids and a busy schedule. Anyway, I noticed that I'd lost about 5 to 7 pounds since I started running, and that's ok. I do not want to continue losing weight because I am 5'4 and weigh about 118-120. I eat, all the time and try to fit in weights once or twice a week (at home).
So, how do I continue running and toning, but not lose any more weight? Running is a release of stress for me so it's really not an option to stop unless un-forseen circumstances forced me to. Please advise. Thank you.

It's -12 out and if I go out running my asthma will kick in within 10 mins of being out. I've given up running since the winter is already here but feel like such a loser not going out and keeping up my fitness. Is asthma a good reason to not go out? I've been told that you can just take the puffer thing and when I do that, I use it three or four times in 20 mins. Should I be looking at a different exercise regime for now and start back up in the spring when it gets warmer?!
