Hello, I want to run my first half marathon. The most I've ever run in one go is probably 10 miles. Is it ok to walk during the half marathon without having to step out in the race? If my goal is completing, how much time am I given before the race usually closes? Is it looked down upon to run/walk this for the goal of finishing?

I've done many 5k road races but this is the first time I'll ever attempt this.. do I use racing flats or run in trainers?

Thanks so much!!!

is it better to run 10 miles 3 or 4 days a week, or run 5 miles 6 days a week?
i thought running longer distances at a time would be more effective at burning fat, as the kreb cycle starts burning fatty acids after it exhausts its glycogen supplies. however i think this is faulty thinking because even if the krebs cycle doesnt start burning fat directly it has to replenish the glycogen supplies and to do that it converts fat anyways.....if i want to maximize the amount of fat burned, will one type of training or the other matter at all as far as running is concerned?

I finished in 4:12 and had a really bad cold, I popped a few sudafed before the race it stop from sneezing and my runny nose. I got a really bad side cramp at mile 17 and hit "The Wall" at mile 22.

Felt great when I finished, looking forward to my next one and hopefully finishing under 4 hours next time.

I'm a 17 year old guy and I weigh 170lbs and I have 8.5% body fat, so i have roughly 15lbs of extra weight from fat. I can already run pretty fast, but If I lost those extra pounds, would it increase my max speed considerably or just a little? I have great endurance and I can run 40 yds in about 10 seconds

Ok I'm really fast (fastest one in my P.E. class), but the problem is I have like no stamina. I recently tried to run the miracle lap on the normal Friday mile, I missed it by 20 secs. I really need to know some ways i can increase my stamina so i can run that miracle lap! And for those that don't know, the mirical lap is 1lap around the track in 65secs for boys and 70 for girls. Thanks for the help!

Ok, So ive been running alot lately, typically 10+ a day with some intervals thrown within for speed. Looking to compete with the half-marathon. I look forward to going for my runs, but after 5-6 tough runs, I typically force myself to rest for a day. I could still run and I wouldnt hurt, but I think the recovery time for my muscles to rebuild once and a while is more valuable than another run on that particular day since your muscle rebuild and arm themselves, without haveing to break down again from another run. So in consequence I should be stronger and have more fuel in my tank when my next runs come. Is this true, or should I just run everyday if i can, without working in a rest day for improvement, cause right now I think a rest day is more helpful than another run since you need to fully recover. What do you think? thanks

My 400 meter right now is 77 seconds. I have 3-4 months to get down to 60-65 seconds.

First, is it possible?
Second, how hard am I gonna have to work?
I've already been at this for about 2 months.

I'm 5' 2.5 112 lbs; ok cardio. 7:20 mile.

Thanks!!! <3

I would like to sprint faster and I know that I need explosive power. I have absolutely no muscle strength in my thighs (i have no cuts, nothing). So would working the thigh muscles have any improvement on explosive speed?

What has been your favorite running shoe of all time and why?

Personally, I loved the Nike Air Max Triax (the '96 model). They were by FAR the best running shoes I'd ever had. I wore them to death. lol.

I am a sprinter on the indoor track team, and we often run in the hallways at school (tile over concrete). I use good running shoes (Saucony) and our coach always makes sure we stretch properly. However, my shins are always extremely sore, and I'm worried about shin splints. Is there anything else I can do to avoid it?

I've been running regularly for about five years. I'm 32 and do 5 - 6 miles in my workout. Lately, though, my knees have been starting to hurt. Not a lot, but enough to get me worried about stressing them.

Can anyone suggest exercises or other solutions that will help me keep the strain off? I want to still be running in my 50s.

+It seems that I don't fit into the running stereotype at all!

+Here's why:
I only exercise for pure pleasure (to feel good).
I don't compete.
I only enjoy LSD (long, slow distance).
I do not run fast for short distances (less than 5K).
If I do run fast - it is only - and only for very short distances (200m; 400m intervals).

*So, since most runners won't consider me a runner (since I don't worship the religion of speed) should I find another religion (sport)? Maybe walking? Maybe weightlifting?

Note: I'm not asking for tips on how to increase speed - so please do not give me those tips (because I really am not a racer type!) Thanks.
