I finished in 4:12 and had a really bad cold, I popped a few sudafed before the race it stop from sneezing and my runny nose. I got a really bad side cramp at mile 17 and hit "The Wall" at mile 22.

Felt great when I finished, looking forward to my next one and hopefully finishing under 4 hours next time.

It was the daytime stuff, but it does put you in a different mindset, I was kinda "out of it" throughout the race.

Nice job! 4:12 is a good time, and I think you can definitely crack 4 hours next time.

That stinks that you got a bad cold before you ran. Does sudafed make you drowsy? Because that could actually make you more tired when you run.

Well, obviously, as everyone says, you did awesome to even start the race, much less finish it, much less do it with a cold! It sounds like you're trying to compare yourself to other runners your age, though.

4:12 isn't elite, by any means, but for a first race, it's just fine. Most first-time male marathoners with no competitive running experience finish in the high 3 hours/low 4 hours mark. So you're right on track! Keep running, and you'll surely break 4 next time. Good luck and again, congratulations!

YOu don't say exactly when the M was, but assuming it was this past weekend, I'd suggest you take it really easy for the next 2 weeks. After my M, I managed to pull a hamstring shortly after. After a month, you might think about putting in some speed training and set some new PRs in shorter races. With all that overdistance under your belt, you may want to consider 1 or 2 days at the track doing some serious speed work.

Good Luck

You were a winner before you even toed the starting line. The fact you finished with a good time just means it becomes an even sweeter achievement. You already have a new goal and some experience to draw on, so congratulations for now and best of luck for the future training and racing.

The fact that you finished says you did a good job. Since this was your first marathon, use the 4:12 time as a starting point and try to improve from there.

if you made it more than 300 feet you did better than I would.
I've never been a good runner but I love to get on my 12 speed and ride for miles and miles.
Good Job!!
