I'm a 17 year old guy and I weigh 170lbs and I have 8.5% body fat, so i have roughly 15lbs of extra weight from fat. I can already run pretty fast, but If I lost those extra pounds, would it increase my max speed considerably or just a little? I have great endurance and I can run 40 yds in about 10 seconds

Yes. definitley. Lose 3% of that fat, and you will feel better, run faster, and be stronger. You cant lose all 8% ( 8% is not much as it is).
It would drop your 40yd time alot, if you lose fat- not muscle.

10 seconds for 40 yards is very slow. The world record for 100 meters is under 10 seconds. Football players do 40 yards in the mid 4 seconds. Also you must be very tall. I weighd 149 in high school and am 5'11" and I was near 10% body fat. I am guessing your problem with running is not related to body fat--seek out a coach.

uhmm... if I remember correctly, 10 seconds for 40 yrds is not that fast. 8% body fat is not that bad. I know guys on collegiate teams that have higher percentages than that. The key is not dropping 3 or 4%. You need to increase your muscle endurance, strength and stamina.

I started out at 10% when running, then went down to a little under %5 and my time improved alot, although I lost the weight training, so that also was a huge factor.

If you're a sprinter, that's probably just fine. A distance might want to lose a little bit. But it's extremely important that you prioritize proper nutrition over weight loss. That's what will really allow you to improve. Do plenty of running and your weight will take care of itself.

yeah, it would improve ur time a bit and if you ever go to distance, the less upperbody mass, the less heat your body produces =p.
