I have a bad shin splint from running. although it has gotten better in the last 4 weeks, i'm still no where near running again. I feel like it's taking to long to heal. Any advice?

Believe me when I say I've been there. I've had shin splints for 4 months. I've done physical therapy, the whole RICE thing, everything. It's now getting better because I've been staying off of it but it was difficult to stay off of it being a soccer player. What actually helped me was getting arch supports in my shoes and my cleats. It turns out all the shoes I was wearing wasn't helping the situation. The doctor says I got mine from overwork and overtraining at soccer practice and that if I kept working on it, I would eventually get a stress fracture. So stay off of it! Shinsplints is the the muscle pulling from the bone so you can also damage tissues in your leg. My advice, stay off of it for a couple of weeks and get some arch supports. Good luck. Shin splints pretty much suck :/

Stop Shin Splints Forever?

Yes…Could be shin splints. If you have pain in the shin, front, and back part of your leg. WHATYOU SHOULD DO 1. Stop the sports activity 2. Put a cold compress or ice pack (or a box of frozen peas wrapped in a towel!) on the front of your lower leg intermittently for 15 minutes or so. Do this for two days. 3. After the first 48 hours, use a warm compress for 20 minutes three times a day. 4. See a doctor if pain continues or if walking becomes difficult. 5. Don't return to running until you’ve rested and healed. IN THE LONG RUN... Always warm up first Ask a trainer or medical professional about orthotics (shoe inserts).

Running through it, no matter how much you want to, can end up very self-destructive. Yes, i did run through my shin splints for about 3 weeks after i could feel the pain when i was walking and ended up taking 6 weeks off for it. i recently started training again and even though i can't run or play other sports as hard as i used to because my body is still repairing, im getting close. so be patient, these injuries can last awhile and even though it might seem like forever, it's better for you in the long run

The way to correct Shin splints is to strengthen the muscles at the front of the legs. Lie face down in bed with your toes hanging over the edge. Pull your toes upward against the resistance of the mattress. Try to work up to 3 or 4 sets of 5 – 10 reps each. Good Luck

Drink lots of water and soak your legs in ice water like in the movie stick it...The reason for shin splints is that you are running on too hard of ground.

you really need to be icing and do some toe and heal walking if you know what that its.
try some new shoes if its been awhile.
and run on the grass as much as you can.
also, toe/heel raises work.
try going on the bike to get into better fitness.

Just run through it. I run cross country and track and u jus gotta run thru it. If u rest then ur jus gonna get worse at runing. It hurts but at least run lightly just dont stop running for good.
