Ok I have some advice...

1.) Wear ankle weights and run up hills 9-10 times.
2.) STAIRS! Try going up and down oh 50 times every day
3.) Lunges! lots of lunges
4.) run every other day if possible!
5.) Eat healthy!
6.) Sprints. If you can go to a track, run about 10 100's every so often.

Good luck! I love track and its so much fun!

I think you need to establish a base first. Since you don't tell us about your training schedule or fitness level, I assume you have none. If this is true, then start running a half mile a day, resting one day a week. After a month of this, then increase your distance one day a week gradually to 2 miles. Then add a second day of long training.

You should also get into the gym and work on UPPER BODY strength. Don't overdo it, but do it.

After a few months and you've done well so far, then you need to gradually add 2 days at the track doing 10x100s.

Good Luck

Since you are tackling running, flexibility is the key. You should be running three to four times out of the week. You will want to mix your running routines as well, such as one day do 100 yard sprints and the next day focus on long distance. Also eating will be important, make sure you are getting the proper nutrition to compliment your workouts and help in the muscle repair. So overall I'd say you should lift at least twice a week and focus on your lower body when lifting (ie... squats, leg press, lunges) and in addition do sprint work and long distance running.
