If I can run the 5k under 18 (17:57), do you think i can easily run the 8k under 30 minutes? Because I think that is good enough to win for the 12-14 age group and I want to win something..

It will be close. You need to increase your endurance in practice running 10k or more to build that up. Don't forget your 400 and 800 meter repeats to build speed to help.

Happy Trails.

5k at 17:57 = 5:46 pace,
8k at 30 = 6:02 pace,
means you would need to hold under a 6:02 split to obtain your goal.

"do you think i can easily run the 8k under 30 minutes?" Thats up to you, can you maintain under 6:02 split for 8k? Possible, yes!

Easily, I don't know, depends on training and lots of other factors (who enters the race, weather, course, how you feel, etc.).

Just on calculations, yes!

"Based on a 5 kilometers race at 00:17:57, your projected finish times for the following distances should be:
1500m 5:00
the mile 5:24
3000m(3k) 10:26
3200m(about 2 miles) 11:10
5000m(5k) 17:56
8000m(8k) 29:31
5 miles 29:42
10,000m(10k) 37:23
ten miles 1:01:54
a half marathon 1:22:25
a marathon 2:51:51"

Thats an impressive time for a 12-14 year old! I don't think so though cause 18x2=36 which is only 6 miles and people tend to slow down. BUT you can do it if you try really hard, eat healthy before, and stretch. I only did under 30 once!

since i've just ended my season of cross country doing 8ks, i'd tell you that you can definetly do that if you just pace yourself correctly. don't go out with the leaders (unless they're going extremely slow). you want to keep your splits as even as possible. that is the key to a good long distance race.

Probably not, but it all depends on how you train and how long you have before the 8k race.

Yes, in my town, the time that won the 14 year age group was 29 something.
