I'm "training" for a marathon. Actually, I really want to do it, but I don't know any training regimes to get in shape. I ran cross country, and I like running, and I run a couple times a week, but not very far. It's on St. Pat's Day.
Any information about anything even related to marathons would be greatly appreciated!!

Congratulations on trying to set goals in your running. You will find it will help a lot. But what you must learn is to set attainable goals so that you don't try to do too much and hurt your body.

For example, St Pat's Day is too soon to even try to run a marathon. This would be my wish for you, but you will need to set up a running plan so that you run 6 days a week eventually:

St Pat's Day - run your first 5K, then run the 5Ks anytime you want after that. Continue to train and SLOWLY GRADUALLY increase your distance.

July 4th - try to find a 4 or 5 mile run

Thanksgiving - try to find a 10K or 5-miler

Continue to train next winter and get into a marathon training program locally for Fall 2009.

Good Luck
