I wear wide shoes and there is a difference. The only problem is that sometimes to get enough width in one area, it becomes too wide in the heels.

If you need wide shoes you will know. I had to get my combat boots in a wide size but regular shoes I don't. There is a difference yes.. Ive tried althletic shoes that were wide vs. med and medium worked better for me even thouugh my boots were considered wide.

Yeah but there are differences from manufacturer to manufacturer. If you use a 9-wide from Nike, that doesn't mean that a 9-wide from New Balance will fit.

Shoe widths once were designated by letters of the alphabet.
Aside from women's sizes, AAAAA, AAAA, AAA, AA. A, B, a medium width might be considered to be a "C" in men's shoes, a "B" in women's.
Wide could be a "D", or "E".
There are some, "EE", "EEE".
Widths varied by about 1/8 ".
What the hell, with China making 80 % of the world's shoes, who the hell knows.

wides are just that wider. most shoes for men are made in a D width. the thing is that is too narrow for some. if you have your foot measured they can determine what width you need, and from then on you will know when you buy new shoes.

when looking at them without much attention there is not much difference. for comfort in people with wide feet it is a big difference.
