i posted this question but didnt explain very clearly. my son has a thing with doors, and since he could walk ive had child locks on everything fridge, oven, all the draws, cupboards i have been so persistant in trying to stop this behaviour but its just become a routine and eventually after hes been so constant he'll brake the lock or they'll bend and open. he always used to go near the oven but i always stressed that it was hot but now hes starting to learn the difference between hot and cold he opens the door and slam it shut , or he'll turn it on and the light comes on than he tells me its hot. he even tells that cats that its hot and moves them away but he wont listen to me hes burnt himself twice now only minor and he still goes back what do i do?

Was at the Park today with my 14mo old who is learning to climb on the jungle gym. There are always other kids around, so I "shadow" him to make sure he doesn't get hurt. Today, a little boy (3 - 4yrs old?) spit on my 14mo old when we were making our way to the slide. My mouth dropped and all I could think to do was say "that was not nice and please do not to spit." He continued to spit as we turned around to use the swings instead. I was so upset, not to mention disgusted! This is our first child so I have not been through this before. I know there will be many more instances like this to come (kicking, biting, etc.) so I'd like to be prepared for the next time. I didn't want to just walk away without saying anything bc I don't want my son to grow up getting bullied like I was. How do you tell off another child? Especially when they already have a "supervisor" watching them from a distance? Also, what if they don't speak english? What was the right thing to do??

We share a nanny that watches 3 kids -- two are 5 and the youngest is 3. The other familes daughter was telling them of a bizarre game the kids are playing during the day. When asked where the nanny was, she responded by saying when the nanny puts the 2 year old down for a nap, she sneaks downstairs and lays down on our couch, leaving the two 5 year olds unattended in front of the TV. We asked our son tonight about it and he told us the same thing.

We're paying her to watch our kids, and I found out that she's taking naps instead. I'm furious. What would you do in this situation? My wife and I have different opinions on the situation.

Both kids just turned 5, so they're closer to 4 rather than 6.

My daughter's 14 months and she hasn't had a morning nap in months. I know my son napped in the morning until he was much older, but I can't remember how old he was when he gave it up. Just wondering what age would be the average.

My daughter was very slow at potty training, and would rather surprise me by going to the bathroom on the floor, chairs, or whereever she's located than to use the toilet.
My home is starting to smell like a filthy urinal! How can I get this terrible smell out of bedding, chairs, floors, etc?

His doctor did give up papers to get it checked again, we are going tomarroe morning. I'm just wondering what could cause it other than diabetes? Could eating high sugar food before testing cause it to be a little elevated?

Oh my gosh, lately I mean for the past four months my son has been extremely terrible he screams over every little thing as loud as he can several times a day (he's nineteen months old) and it drives me nuts doesn't matter where we are or how I try to explain things to him he still does it. For example, we went to a store today and I took away a jar of olives from him for obvious reasons as we were checking out and he screamed and carried on all the way out to the car. Then once we reached the car he screamed because he had to go back into his car seat (which he hates but what can I do). We get home and he screams and screams when I tell him no, take things he don't need even if I explain why, try and change his diaper (he pooped like three times), and it seems to be getting worse. I try so hard to ignore it, but at what point does it become enough. I'm at my ropes end, and can't help but think if I did that growing up nineteen months old or not I would of gotten smacked. Advice?

Do anyone have any ideas?

My 2 year old daughter went to stay with her Nanny for a week and now she's back home she won't go to sleep alone, she screams and screams. Nanny has just transfered her from a travel cot to a big bed although she slept fine in her big bed at home. My daughter also has a cold. When she screamed nanny let her sleep with my husband until she fell asleep and then put her back into her bed. Now everytime I put her to bed she screams and asks me to lie next to her and to hold her hand, which I do until she falls asleep.
She was away for so long as my husband takes her to visit for 1 weekend a month but also had to stay on working in London which is where nanny lives. I live in Devon.
Do you think she's scared incase she's taken away from me again? We are very close and spend all day together. Do you think this a phase and is there anything I can do to reassure her?
Thanks x

I'm right handed, but my nearest rellies are all left-handers, except Eep Senior, who is a touch ambidextrous. Mrs Eep is of mainly right handed stock. Littlest Eep (6 months) seems to keep changing his mind about which hand to grab stuff with.

When will one hand become dominant?

Okay, sorry for the gross question. My soon-to-be 4 year old son (who isn't potty trained, but that's another issue) has started playing with his poop. Last night, he stood up after sitting on our rocking chair and stuck his hands down the back of his pants and started playing. When I got a hold of him, he had poop all over his hands (and his pants, and the chair). Even though he got punished for it, he thought it was funny. Why is he doing this? Is it normal (I have a hard time believing it is)? What do I do about it?
Thanks.

Hi mommies! My 14 month old used to have the best appetite! I nursed her for 12 months, and afterwards, she ate 6-8 jars of baby food/day plus 3 cups of soy milk- and still was only 15% for her weight. She is a tiny thing! In the past week or so, I am lucky if I get 3-4 jars of food in her. She seems to just want to snack, and doesn't drink all of her milk either. She is still not sure about lots of foods to feed herself, so maybe she is trying to tell me no more baby food? But when I offer things like chicken and other finger foods, she won't do them either. Any suggestions? I don't think she is sick, just a new phase? Thanks!

My son's birthday is December 7th. I'm thinking of having a small get together with about 6-10 kids. I was thinking of having it at my house. It's child proof and I have a lot of toys. I don't have much money and I was wondering what types of activities and gift bags I could give out. Please help. I'm trying to come up with ideas before I send out the invitations. I don't want to do Mc D's because of the ball pits, I've heard many a nasty things about them. I don't trust them. He is really into superman and I was gonna make the cake a superman cupcake cake but I need ideas to keep the kids entertained.

I have a 2 year old, and I have been told I need to send him to preschool (by my mother-in-law of course) and I cannot decide if I really want to. I've called several of them, and I hate to say it, but when did being a child become all about stuffing your heads so full of stuff at such a young age? I am totally for education, have a college degree etc, but teaching 2 year olds to write the alphabet seems a little much to me. I called sevearl churches that have mother's day out programs and they are the same, they go by the school day hours, and have a Sept-May year. I want my son to have fun and learn by doing things, but I don't want to put him at a disadvantage though because of not sending him and he is behind what is expected in Kindergarten. We do things, but it's not like a set structured schedule all day every day, I've tried that, and I had a hard time keeping to it because I have things I need to do too (errands, tending to the other kids etc). Anyone have advice?
