Hi, I'm not a doctor tho as a nanny I have come across this a couple of times now. Is this german measles, reubella, or measles? If there is an outbreak of reubella then I suggest you keep child and yourselves away from women in early preganancy. Contact with the unborn child (in early pregnancy) can cause serious defects. Also, you can be a carrier, tho not come out with signs and pass this on to another child. Only about 5% of children with the MMR still catch these illnesses. If it's measles....if it were me, I'd just stay away and make other arrangements. No good staying away tho if you're going to be meeting up with the kids still tho, best stay away from everyone. Their is also an incubation period of about 3 weeks.....it can take that long for it to show, by the time the rash/spots comes, well, you could have had it for a week or so. I'd rather air on worste case scenario than best case scenario when it comes to our children's and our own health.

you cannot become a downs syndrome person, as one of the answers said by getting the measles vaccination.. absurd... down syndrome is cause by a chromosone abnormality (chromosone 21 i believe).. there has been a link between autism and the measels vaccine but it is refuted by most of the medical proffession.. I thik if you have had your child vaccinated but dont beleive the vaccination can work then i dont know why you got the child vaccinated in the first place.. measels is not deadly in most cases though a person who has it should not be in contact with any pregnant women nor should be anywhere where there is bright light as it can cause vision problems.. i did not give my child the mmr due to doubts of its effectiveness comparable to the risk.. if my child was vaccinated then i would have to stand by my decision and would send my child to nursery.. if you are unsure go with your gut insinct and you should research any vaccines you subsequently give your child so as not to do something that has risk without there being any point... good luck..

Measles is highly contagious.
Having a shot (Innoculation, immunisation) does NOT absolutely guarantee a person will NOT get measles (or any other disease they give shots for).
Many of the shots are only 50 - 70% effective. Meaning they are not all that reliable. (Not even counting the side effects, such as getting the disease they are supposed to prevent, becoming a Down's Syndrome or other mentally disabled person.
The best protection against ANY DISEASE is prevention; stay away from a sick person and you will not get sick.

Wow, I didn't think measles where still in the united states. I thought they were wiped out years ago. Are you sure it's not the chickenpox?
It's better for kids to catch chickenpox when they are young if they are going to get them. I had them at 23 and thought i was going to die. I don't know if I would purposely expose my child to them though. The child should not be attending daycare if they are still contagious though

if it is serious enough for them to call you...then i would keep her off for a while. you can still catch it but its a much milder form of it.
