I have a year and a half year old mildly autistic son, and when I take him to the store, I either get dirty looks for being such a young mother, [I'm only 16, long story about how Jacen was conceived, I don't really want to talk about it] or I get people asking who I'm babysitting for, or where our mother is, to ask her how old he is, how badly his autism is, that stuff. . After I tell them Jacen is mine, they give me dirty looks or say how cute he is. I love my Jacen, and wouldn't change anything, he is such a happy baby, and he's loved by everyone. Why do i get so much opposition? What do I say to people who don't like the idea of such a young mother?

I am a nanny and I watch two amazing kids who are 3 and 5. Unfortunately, the 3 year old is HIGHLY allergic to dairy products and has acid reflux. He is so limited in what he can eat, but he loves to cook. The problem is that he can never eat anything that we make. I need quick easy recipes that the kids can help out with that don't use eggs, milk, or products from either of these. They love desserts. Any suggestions?

We just got custody of our niece and nephew, and our niece will be 3 in july and is not potty trained yet. She knows when she goes cause she tells me to change her pull-up. How do i get her to tell me before she does it so she can use the big potty or her potty chair? I have tried using suckers but it hasnt worked.

I'm currently expecting and my 2 year old has been more tempermental than usual. I was told that some kids act up when their moms are expecting, and return to normal after the baby is born. Could this be true?

My son seems so small to me at times compared to his brother. He weighs 24 pounds and his 9 month old brother weighs 23 pounds.
He has always been on the small side in weight and like the 95th% in height. Thanks for all you answers.

My 17 month old steps on my feet all the time. I used to think it was unintentional, but even when i move my feet he steps on them. He never steps on his daddy's feet either. He's a good 27 pounds or so and it hurts. I know he isn't doing it to be mean, but what do you do or tell a toddler so they understand that they are hurting you?

My daughter is 22 months... she needs me to sit in her room in order for her to fall asleep, she plays w/ a beauty mark (mole) on my jaw line (she's been doing this since she was 5 months old) She doesn't know how to fall asleep on her own. The problem now is she WANTS to sleep in her own bed, but when she wakes up at 3am and realizes I'm not there she gets upset so I sit by her bed waiting for to fall back asleep while she plays w/ my mole (by this she just rubs her finger over it) she'll fall back asleep I sneak out and five mins later she wakes again... this goes on for like two hours... and when I try to give up and take her to my bed she cries "own bed, own bed"... I've even sewed a mole on one of her teddy bears.I don't know what else to do besides putting her in her room and closing the door and letting her scream, which I don't really want to do. Any suggestions? I have also have a 3 month old now so staying up 2 to 3hrs a night isn't as do able.

Hi all, today in daycare(the kids there are 20 month olds) there W kept biting all the other kids. Even the little 16 month old that was visiting us today. (there where 2 other adults in the room) he wasn't listening when the adults told him "NO BITING. It hurts" he just cryed because the adults where not happy(he was looking right at the adults when they told him that). So I tryed to distract him with another toy and he bit me instead. Any Ideas on what I can do to get him to stop biting people?

what all do I need to tell her.

We've gone over discipline. No spanking, yelling, scolding, etc. Just gentle discipline.

She has emergency contact numbers.

She has dates that I need care.

She has lists of what foods the kids like and what activities they like.

Is there anything else I really need to go over with her? I meet up with her in about 2 hours.

I finally found a preschool that I like for my 4 year old to start next fall. It's in a church, and there are three entrance doors that are UNLOCKED at all times. The preschool door is open as well.
I asked the teacher about security, and she didn't have anything to say, other than they've never had an incident.
I understand that it is a church, and the doors of a church typically remain open.
But, does this make anyone else uncomfortable? I am shocked that anyone could walk into the building at any time. There's not even a secretary that they have to walk past first.
Will I only find a more secure building if I enroll him at a preschool that is not in a church?
I posted a similar question a few weeks ago, and found that most other preschools were secure. But now I'm wondering if this is typical of a church program.
Please help! This is the deciding factor of whether I choose this school or continue my search.
Thanks in advance.

I am a stay at home mom to my 13 month old son. Sometimes I worry I am not doing enough learning activities with him. I hear other moms talk about all the structure and activities their kids do in daycare and I am concerned I may not be doing enough for my son at home. Any other stay at home moms have some advice here? THANKS!

What did you serve the little ones for lunch? We had chicken nuggets, cheese crackers, bananas and juice. Almost nap time! (for them, not me!)
