My four-year-old is so unkind to his one-year-old brother sometimes...taking toys from him, shoving him, and so on. It seems like everything I do fails to stop the behavior.

My son was recently told he most likely has Apraxia of speech. My son is 22 months old and only says 3 words. At one time he said 6 but he has lost 3 of those now. This new news is very upsetting to me so please be kind with your answers. Do you have any experience with this disorder? Can you tell me signs or symptoms? My son will start speech therapy soon, how quickly does that help? Please help, I know nothing about this. I have read online but want real peoples info instead of online info.
thank you.

I've tried 3 times to take my son to the ice skating rink - he wasn't miserable (that's why we kept coming back), but he really couldn't get the hang of it and was not improving. I bought him sneaker-rollerskates (4-wheels on each foot). No go. He cannot keep a balance. His legs just go apart and he starts to fall backwards (and sometimes forwards) before I catch him. The skating rink we go to does not allow the use of walkers for kids unless you're taking/paying for a class. I don't have time or resources for a class, but I would like to know if there are any exercises I can do with him to improve his balance. He seems perfectly fine on 'solid ground'. Internet and book references are appreciated. Please - no answers with criticism about endangering or pushing my kid too far. Thanks!

I have a nine month old baby and older children as well, I do also care for other children as well, this child however is causing me some major problems. I am watching him as a favour to his father, his wife left and he works full time and is in a bind so I can't even back out. I think that all of the drama in the childs life has just just caused some major disipline problems. I could use some advice or ideas that I could try to calm him down a bit. He is disrupting all of the other children in the home and causing me a fair bit of frustration as well.

My 3 yr old is refusing to take his nap or even lay down at Daycare. Instead he runs around the room screaming and hitting his friends with his blanket and other things. Sometimes kicks. The teachers are calling, but he refuses to get on the phone. They relay my message - it's nap time, you don't have to sleep, but you do have to lay on your mat and be quiet. We have started taking toys and treats away and granted back when he is good, but that isn't working. I don't know what to do! He takes them at home, or at least lays there being quiet until nap time is over. I need some suggestions, before he gets kicked-out.

When it is time for our 3 1/2 year old son to go to bed he tries to come up with any excuse he can to not sleep in his room. He says that there are monsters, ghosts etc... in his room. He goes through a 30 - 45 min yelling and screaming tantrum before we can finally get him to somewhat settle down. Has anyone gone through this same situation that can give us some tips on what we can try ? We are open to any suggestions. We have done the obvious things like tell him that there are no monsters in his room.

Ok, So arguing with girlfriend at the min. She thinks i am too strict on kids and dont allow them to do anything. I believe in the following is this to strict?

Children should not climb in the Kitchen
Children should not Swear
Children should not hit adults when being told off
Children should not help themself in the fridge (three year old)
Children should not throw toys in tantrums
Children should not show agresive behaviour when being told not to do things
Children should say please and thank you
Children who throw tantrums when they want something dont get the things they want.

My punishment for most of these would be time out and told why they are being put in the time out etc and the right way to do things the next time. Obviously this wouldnt apply to all. Please tell me i am right in this? Clear Boundries and rules need to be set so a toddler dont walk all over you right?

It's kind of a dilemma but not. My son is 2 1/2 and the child that takes toys from him is about 6 months younger, but more aggressive than mine. Everytime my son picks out a toy to play with this other boy comes and takes it away from him.. it literally can happen several times in a row. My son cries and makes a fuss and I try and distract him with another toy to play with, and then this boy will take away the toy I just gave my son. The other boy's mother does try to intervene as well, though I wonder if this is a situation where we should at this point try and let them figure it out on their own instead of intervening? My son needs to toughen up and the other boy needs to learn not to take from others.. though the other boy is younger and probably doesn't know better as much as my son?

My 3 year old son will stay up to 11 o'clock if he takes a nap during the day. Sometimes we try to limit his nap time but then he'll go to bed too early around 6:30 or 7. What's an optimal time for bed?

I take my 20 month old daughter to work with me 6 days a week. She has behind the counter and the entire back room to explore but she likes to stay by my side...which I have no problem with. What I need is lots and lots of ideas that I can do with her. I already read, play with stickers, draw/color, which I will continue to do with her but she seems like she is getting too used to the same patterns. So any ideas I will take. If you know of things I can get at Micheals (the craft store) plz tell me. I work here 6 days a week 7 hours a day so I really need lots of stuff. Don't forget she is only 20 months old but definitly acts like she is already 2. Thanks for the help.

Do you use a dry brush?
Do you use something like baking powder, peroxide or salt?
Do you use a commercial toothpaste? If so which one?
Are you concerned about any of the ingredients such as colour, sweetners, flavour?
Are there any active ingredients you think work best?
How old was your child when you started using toothpaste?
How many times a day do you brush your child's teeth? How old are they?

*lol* Anything else you want to share?

Just trying to get some info to make some decisions.

Thanks!

My son is 2 1/2 years old and I am very concerned over his behavior. When he doesn't get his way he tends to bite his finger or hits himself in the head. Sometimes he'll hit his hand on the wall. Is this normal? This is my first child and I don't know what to do. Please Help.

death of hypothermia? If you haven't read the story...a 23 yr. old guy got upset about his 2 yr old daughter being up and playing during the night and hit her when she would not go back to bed, knocking her out. He then wrapped her in a blanket and put her outside. They found her two days later...after following her "little" footprints in the snow. What would you do to this guy? It pisses me off that so many children become victims of "parents" who have no business having kids.

My daughter is 14 months old i am a stay at home mom I spend all day with my daughter except when she takes naps which is when i clean house and i have my "quiet time" When we go out if my daughter misbehaves i warn her and if she continues i pop her butt not hard at all but just to let her know she is being bad. My daughter's other grandma is constantly telling me i need to get a job and put her in daycare. I can't work because i am disabled i have myasthenia gravis and most days i am fine but some days i can't even get out of bed with having MG i have learned how to pick my daughter up without hurting her or without dropping her and how to do the little things like fixing her a peanut butter sandwich I had to learn how to do all that again. If i get a 9-5 job it would tire me out and i've been told by the Doctor that i would probably never work again. Her other g-ma is telling me i am a bad mom because of my disability and that i need to give my daughter up Why am i the bad mom?

He eats what ever I give him to eat and it seems as though he does not get full. I try to make him stop but he just gets mad at me. I try to feed him 3 times a day but that want work because he comes to me and tell me he's ready to eat or he's hungry. So I give him carrots and bannans, basiclly a lot of fruits and vegetables but he still always wants to eat. As long as I let him he will and it's not like he sits and eats he has to hurry up and finish eating to try to get more. I really don't understand and it makes me upset sometimes because I hate going places where there will be food because I know as long as it there he is going to want to eat so I'm always telling him no or taking him snacks so that he can be satisfied but when it's all gone it's back to "no you can't have anything else and don't ask". He will ask a stranger for there food, I mean people I have never seen before if they are eating he wants some I really don't understand.
