Toddler & Preschooler - February 2007

I have a two and a half year old girl and was wondering when people generally start their kids in preschool? Is 3 years too early? Or does it depend on the child, whether or not they are ready? I'm a stay at home mom and she has always been at home with me pretty much all day. She never really socializes with kids much other than her younger cousin. I really would like to put her in preschool before she starts Kindergarten so she can be ready for it. Any help on this would be great!

My son is 17 months old, and only says mamma, nanna, dadda, and that. I'm worried about autism. He makes good eye contact, and he understands what I'm saying. I know this because he follows simple instructions. He is very social and loves people. Neither my hubby or I have autism in our families, but I am still worried. How much should he be saying, and when should I get really concerned?

I make him sit on the commode twice everyday, but he would never potty. As soon as I put a diaper on he does it. I'm getting too tired of this thing. Please help! I always am very patient with him never scolding him about what he does, telling him stories of how his other cousins love to do it on the commode. By the way I have tried very fancy potty seats too. Nothing seems to b working :-(.....

What did you nap with, or play with most? The one thing you had to have.

Mine was a cloth diaper (clean!) that I dragged around. My most beloved toy was my orange and blue Big Wheel. I had lots of adventures on it!

I target Wonderpets specifically because it has a duck with a really bad speech problem. I know that we should have tolerance for people like this, but don't you think that Children who are still developing their speech need to here words pronounced correctly. I know it's cute, but I think it's bad for development. Are there any other shows that you think are bad for child development and why?

There is a child in my Montessori class that I had a bit of trouble with today. All through out the day he played in the sink and got two shirts wet. He got a little water on one shirt and I had to put another on him. A little bit later he got that one a little bit wet and decided that he wanted to take it off completely. He has a habit of taking off his clothes shoes during school. I told him to put his arms back into his shirt and he said no. I tried to put his arms through the holes of the shirt and he pulled away from my and then proceeded to pitch a fit in the floor. I asked him to get up and he would not. I attempted to assist him to his feet but this was not going to happen so I stepped back and let him continue. Finally the substitute got him to get to his feet by sweet talking him and telling him that they could go put his shirt in the dryer. I am not sure if I did the right thing now or not. Should I have given into the child’s wishes?

Hi, Can any mom tells me please what ELSE I should do to stop my son using easy-ups at night only? He never knows when he will wet the bed, I have tried everything, waking him up, not letting he drink anything before bed time, tells him to go potty before bed time too, and still he wets every single night the bed. He is almost 6 years old, and I have no idea why he still doesn't know when to go to potty at night while he is sleeping. Anyone give me an aswer to tell me what to dooooooooooo.........

My two year old daughter and I went sledding the other day, It is about 10 degrees here. Her mittens kept coming off every time we went down the hill. Does anybody know of a way of keeping her mittens on so they will not fall off her.

My daughter is almost 2, and ever since she was able to move, she smiles, wiggles, moves, and dances to music. Even if it is just background music on a tv show. Is this a normal thing for babies and toddlers, or does she have a special love for music? Nobody in our family is a dancer, so we are kinda clueless. Thanks!

Last year, there were SO many people it was insane. My parents house is huge, but they were still stuffed in there like sardines. Its too cold in my area to have the party at a park, and there are no Chuck E. Cheese type things withing a couple hours of here. Would you think its rude to only invite family? Just our family alone is big enough, add in the friends, and its insane. We didnt even have time to say hi to everybody last time.

He is completely uninterested and being a relatively new father I'm worried he's going to be the only kid in kindergarten in diapers. We've got potty treats and everytime he goes on the toilet (once every couple of weeks) he gets one but he has yet to go #2 on the toilet at all. Am I just being a worry wart?
