My daughter is almost 2, and ever since she was able to move, she smiles, wiggles, moves, and dances to music. Even if it is just background music on a tv show. Is this a normal thing for babies and toddlers, or does she have a special love for music? Nobody in our family is a dancer, so we are kinda clueless. Thanks!

this question is awesome! until I was sitting here thinking on it? I had never actually thought about whether or not all babies dance.. or if there is "anything" to it... but now? I am even more curious.....

six babies and I only had three that did it young, around one to 1 1/2... after or around two? all have... but from early like you are saying? only two... one is now ten and loves anything and everything theatrics..... first time anyone noticed? swear, I am not lying when I say, the day she was born.... the other is four..... she was, first time I noticed it with her was at almost a little over a month.. I know it was around then, because at first I thought she was twitching and about to have a seizure... lol.. and ballet is her biggest love.. she's had no lessons.. but if she sees a move? she can do it... and the dancing? it is second nature how to "move" they both love musical instruments.... they learn quickly on them and after having the basics want to learn the next one.... have an ear for them

not sure if it means much other than they love sounds... they are both my loudest..lol... they both sing and always have... one is very off key... one has a beautiful voice...so it does not preclude singing ability? they have been doing this even before talking... it was humming lullabies or songs sung at church, all the while rocking, dancing......... they studied (study) different surfaces and the sounds they make too, come to think of it.... and then loudest comes in while they bang, toot... stomp to make their own "music" singing in that very neat off/on key musical duet...

now the flip side...they are my only two that had difficulty when learning to talk? couldn't get/hear some of the sounds just right? and also can not pronounce them just right..... ? not sure if that would go along with everything else... but it does have to do with sounds? one has to be in speech therapy now.. one was in it for two or three years......

not sure if any of it has to do with each other? or with the original love of music and wiggling, dancing.. the happy smiles to be able to... so precious... anyway
hope this helps you....
take care

Yes. They've done studies on it. Music is one of the few things ingrained in the brains of all humans. Babies jiggle and try to keep rhythm. Most adults keep time in their head or tap their toe unconsiously. Thats why commercials use jingles we can remember the tune when we don't catch a word on what they're selling. Music is something we have in common all around the world when language and culture would be a barrier.

I've got a 20 month old who's jiggle dances and is now trying to sing along with all sorts of things. Sooo cute

i think that most toddlers love dancing to music especially if you're joining in with them. they are learning every day about their surroundings and they associate dancing with happy times

I think they all do...I know when I was younger and listened to Motley Crue in the car, cruising around with my little girl who was about 2 or 3, one certain song would come on (Kick Start My Heart) and she would just start kicking and moving in her car seat like she was dancing her little heart out... It was great!!!
So enjoy it, they dont stay little long... :o)
