My 3 1/2 year old has a disorder called pica. He has a compulsion to chew and eat non food items. We visit our pediatriacian regularily for blood tests on iron and lead levels but are still struggling with modifing the behavior. He takes a multivitamin daily and for a while that seemed to help. Now he is chewing on his windowsill. He gnaws at the wood and actually eats the wood. We have tried putting hot pepper oil on the wood and this deterred him for a short time. He does not limit himself to wood, he also eats books, cardboard and will chew his toys and fingers.

Does anyone out there have experience with this and if so, how do you cope with it? Do you have any suggestions as to help deter him?

Thanks!

She is 22 months exactly...and she can say words, recite her abc's and count to 10....she just doesnt speak in full sentences outside of the phrase "Come on" when she wants something ;).....I believe it is due to her not being in daycare....I have a sitter at home with her because Im scared to death of daycare until atleast 3yrs *assuming she will be talking by then bc i need her to be able to communicate to me any wrong doings**the sitter is family which I trust*....Nonetheless, are there any suggestions outside of reading to her that may assist her with her speech. I buy leapfrog and all the learning toys I find...but I dont want to feel like Im pressuring her......any other suggestions??.... I know 18 months old that can talk her under a table and it just worries me a little *her doctor says she's fine but i'd like to ask the advice of other parents just because doctors are so by the book so its nice to know what someone actually going through it may have to offer*

Do you have clever 5 years old? Please can you tell me what the cleverest thing you have seen from a 5 year old? If it makes my son look as thick as pig's poo, I will give you the best answer.

Hi all, he's 18 months, and it's still very sparse. Should I be concerned? Baldness runs in my husband's family, but he's just a toddler!

My daughter (2yrs old with thick long hair) has bad dandruff. I use Selsun Blue sensitive skin when I was her hair. The dandruff goes away for a while. Her scalp starts itching and she of course scratches it and it becomes red. She then gets these little sores and scabs in her scalp. Does anyone know what this can be?

Sometimes my 4 1/2 -year-old stutters his words and doesn't pronounciate very well, and other times he speaks fine. I always understand him, but sometimes others have problems. Other kids AND adults have made faces at him, like, "what are you saying"? And I've been asked "why does he talk like that" right in front of him. My pediatrician said not to worry, that some kids his age think so quickly, they just can't get the words out right, and that it will get better. I feel like I need to do more to help him. Has anyone ever had this problem? I'd like for him to go to speech therapy, but I can't afford it. I don't want him to become self-conscience. What's your advice?

Okay - my 13 month old son never sits still for one minute. I try to hold him in my lap so we can read a book and he starts screaming he wants down. I hold him down when changing his diaper he squirms and starts crying. He has fits in his car seat if hes in it for more than 5 minutes. Its getting frustrating and Im not sure if this is a behavioral issue or not - most people I ask are friends or family and they just say hes a very active child and theres nothing wrong - I dont know if theyre just being nice or what. Maybe someone can give me some advise?.
