both my boys showed readiness for the potty at age 3. Boys usually take longer than girls. Each child has thioer own clock inside them for when they are ready to understand the whole procedure of being trained. Please do not assume because the child can walk, he/she has the cognitive understanding of being able to use the potty. There are clear signs your child will give when he/she is ready. It will not help to make your child sit on a potty when he is clearly not ready. And it makes no sense to put the child, or you thru all the stress and hassle of doing something that can not physically or mentally be understood by the child yet...
here is a site that gives more detail.

We started talking about it (my children and me) at around 2. No pressure, just questions like...wanna try the potty? If they seemed curious I let them try. They sort of tried..but all three of them were close to 3 years old before they were really potty trained. I didn't want to put a lot of stress on myself or them so I never really pushed it. I just waited until they seemed to sort of 'get' it.

I started at two but he wasn't a pro until 3. When I knew he knew when he had to go and could use the potty by himself I said no more training pants and made him wear underware. Worked like a charm.

I knew my daughter was ready when she kept taking her diaper off at 18mos, I told her,"If you don't want to wear a diaper, you have to pee in the potty," and that was exactly what she did-no accidents ever! Then I had a boy.....................................
When your little one starts to inform you of their functions, it is usually a good indicator of an awareness that is necessary for potty-training. Around 2 is common, but it could be well before or well after-that's up to the trainee!

My daughter decided that she no longer wanted diapers around 2. We are not being pushy, but have let her switch to 'big girl panties' which are the cotton ones or, as her doctor suggested, nothing at all. If we put her in pull-ups she seems to regress so I try to as little as possible.
Sometimes it is the child that decides, but if you try to push them this is the one thing that they can always win at so be sure not to make it seem like a huge deal and it might be easier. Anytime you go ask if he/she needs to go too. Also, be sure to make it clear that everyone goes, it makes it seem a little less scary - or at least that is what my daughter tells me.

I started potty training when they started walking. Once they were secure about their footing and could move about freely, they went straight to pull-ups and the potty chair

I would say when he started taking his diapers off when he was wet or had a bm....
then you know for sure he/she is ready
If he/she doesn't want it on them then
should be using the bathroom and not the carpet or hard wood floors....LOL
