My son sucks his thumb so I did some research on it myself. Today most experts say that they will let it go when they are ready and pushing them before they are ready will make it worse. Almost all children give it up by the age of four. In a way it is actually a good thing b/c it means they have learned a way to comfort and calm themselves.

I would first try to understand why she is doing it - is it for comfort or is there something else going on psycologically and deal with the underlying issue. Children always suck their thumb for one of these reasons. So please avoid putting anything like vinegar, pepper, tabasco sauce to stop it as it may cause some other problems such as burning her tender tongue. Also giving her something to replace it does not take care of the issue since she will be replacing one habit for another. Don't try to pull her finger out of her mouth but tell her to take it out gently. If this habit continues for long, it may be beneficial to take her to a psychiatrist.

Why do you want to do that?! I think it's really cute and completely natural! I sucked my thumb until I was three but I eventually grew out of the stage. Don't give the child a complex, just wait till she grows out of it.

at this its very common .but this is an important issue as u shd stop ya daughter from making it an habit.
try to make her wear hand smitten .
keep her hands engaged by giving her some toy or rattle in her hand whenever she tries to suck.
or else apply some food on her hand which she dislikes rather than using harmful chemicals.
be alert and be with her as long as possible don't let her suck fr day or 2 even once this will really help.
Gd luck
