Toddler & Preschooler - September 2006

Timeouts don't work. Spanking? Of course not. Saying, "We don't hit. Hitting hurts" has no effect at all. Pushing him away and saying, "I won't pick you up when you hit" seems to make it worse.

Our toddler is generally friendly and good-natured, he just seems to lack impulse control and can be aggressive. We've read every theory we can find and listened to tons of advice but had no luck.

Help! I am getting the tar beat out of me by a two-year-old!

My 22 month old has a horrible rash on his bottom.

It's small red bumps all over his bottom. I can't get it to go away...I've tried baby powder w/ talc, desitin, vasoline and corn starch. I'm running out of options. Could this be a yeast infection? If I can't get it to go away I will go to the doc, I just need some advice.

I have a 15 month old and she doesn't eat much. She has cereal and milk in her bottle for breakfast, some yogurt or puree fruit for a snack before lunch. For lunch if I give her some pureed veggies and meat, she will have about 4 or 5 spoonfulls and won't eat anymore, so I end up giving her again milk and cereal and the same thing for supper. Its like she doesn't have an appetite and I don't know what to do. Should I see her doctor or does anyone have the same experience and know what to do?? Please help!

I have a 2 yr old and will be 3 in 2 mos. and he only has like a 6 word vocabulary, I'm kind of worried that he is way behind because a friend of mine, her son and mine were born 27 days apart, but you can hold a conservation with her son. And sometimes my little boy whines I don't know what he wants since he really can't communicate. The advice that I got was to put him in daycare w/ kids his age, then he will start communcating better. He was also born a preemie, could this have something to do with it?

My husband and I went to a Gymboree class with our son and it was kind of lame for the price. We sang a song then had "free time" and then we blew bubbles. It seems like it is not worth the money, any opinons?

My 18 month old daughter keeps taking all of her clothes and her diaper off. The just pulls her diaper off, she doesn't take off the velcro. I was wondering if any other moms have had this problem and what you did to stop your child from doing this.

Anything send her off on one, I stirred her porrige one morning and she screamed for 45 minutes. I just walk away and go into another room. I have tried reward charts, exclusion, you name it.

go to his games. The problem is that our toddler is very difficult during the games and one of us ends up missing most of the game. Does anyone have any ideas for entertaining him and still allowing both parents to watch the game? We don't have access to a sitter during this time. Please help. Thanks!
