I have a 15 month old and she doesn't eat much. She has cereal and milk in her bottle for breakfast, some yogurt or puree fruit for a snack before lunch. For lunch if I give her some pureed veggies and meat, she will have about 4 or 5 spoonfulls and won't eat anymore, so I end up giving her again milk and cereal and the same thing for supper. Its like she doesn't have an appetite and I don't know what to do. Should I see her doctor or does anyone have the same experience and know what to do?? Please help!

Why do you puree everything? At 15 months she should be eating solid foods. Give her some crackers and cheese or some carrots...she's probably sick of runny vegetables!

Hi. Yes, I have lots of experience. I have three grown children and six grandchildren. I will admit that I don't have all of the answers though.

First you say that your daughter is 15 mo. old. At this age beyond 1 year, she should be off of the bottle. The reason being that she now needs food. The easy way to do that is to subtract one ounce of milk, each bottle and replace with water. Finally ending up with all water. Then she won't want the bottle. Give her milk from a cup with her meals. She is filling up on milk.

Introduce her to green beans, eggs, fruit, and other small pieces of food. She probably has teeth and is old enough to be eating table food or baby food if you want her to. She doesn't have an appetite because her little tummy is full of cereal. Still don't expect her to eat a lot. You could give her vitamins if you feel that she needs them.

Your job is to provide healthy food options. It's up to your child to decide how much to eat. At 15 mos., toddlers are good at self regulating their food intake. Believe me, if a child that age is hungry they will let you know. But don't treat her like a baby. She shouldn't have a bottle anymore and she should be eating finger foods and foods that can be easily picked up with a fork or spoon. And don't be afraid to add flavor. Kids can handle a lot more than you think, everything doesn't have to be pureed, unseasoned and bland. She should really be eating table food. Just watch out for choking hazards. Others have suggested raisins, but I would stay away from those until she is more accustomed to chewing and swallowing. Try rice and small pieces of veggies and meat or chicken. Pasta is always good. Chunks of avocado or tomato or hard boiled egg. Cheerios, chunks of cheese, grapes cut in half - lots of options, but stop the purees and don't overdo the milk.

She's probably losing a taste for the baby food. It's really nasty lol. She's old enough now to eat solid foods...my son was eating solid foods before his first bday. After getting off his baby food, his appetite grew. Another thing, no bottle, she should be drinking out of a sippy cup now. The bottle could actually hinder her from wanting real foods. She knows by now that if she doesn't eat what you feed her she'll get a bottle, which she may like. Also, let her start feeding himself, there's no reason for you to be feeding her still. Once they're a year old, they explore everything with their hand and mouth, you're actually holding her back by not letting her be more self suficient right now. She may not take to solid food immediately, but give her time. It's all new for her, and she'll take time to find out what she likes and doesn't like. Don't mean to sound harsh, but I have two boys of my own, plus I've raised my two nephews and one niece...I know a thing or two about kids lol. None of them have been picky eaters, and eat very well.

why are you giving her cereal and milk in a bottle? that is most of your problem. you should be feeding her with a spoon. not putting it in a bottle. She should also be eating the stage 2 and 3 baby food and some table foods that can be chopped up good.
My niece was doing the same thing and was wondering why her son was not eating. I told her to throw away that nasty instant box cereal and get the jars of baby food, and the only thing that goes in a bottle is milk, water and juice. He started eating good after that.
At 15 months old she should be able to eat a lot of table foods that are chopped up good, not pureed.

At 15 months, the baby she start moving to solids already. Her Front teeth may be in, so she can nibble on raisins, baby carrots, sliced apples, oranges, broccoli spears and different varieties. Try funny foods that she can't help but eat. Ants on the Log... Celery stick, peanut butter and raisins. Mickey mouse pancakes. Use a cookie cutter and shape some sandwiches into flowers or little people. Use teddy grahams and she can create some scenes. Teddy grahams taking a bath in rice pudding. Be creative. Good luck.

Stop giving her cereal in a bottle, she should be eating from a spoon and bowl by now and should be learning how to use a spoon on her own. If she is growing, gaining weight, getting taller then she is getting all that HER body needs to thrive.

She sounds pretty normal to me.Their stomachs are so small and it doesn't take much to fill them.If you want her to eat more, try not putting cereal in her formula, that"s a meal in its self. They also have dips in appetite and will only wnat to eat one thing for awhile before moving on to something else.Introduce new foods to her slowly. In time she will be eating you aout of house and home.LOL. Just kidding.I can asure you,her appetite and eating habits will get better. As for now ...follow her lead.

i went through the same thing when my daughter was a toddler and i was so worried about her lack of appetite that i even took her to the doctor. I found out to just be patient even though its hard and just allow him/her to eat what they can, when they can and dont ever try forcing them to eat. the kid will eat what they need, believe me...and just keep fluids in them
