Hello,
I am a single father raising 2 boys. They are 10 and 12.

Lately they have BOTH been acting out. My 12 year old has gotten suspended from school twice already this year for language, and my 10 year old seems to be picking up on his brothers bad habits.

When I ask my 12 yr old to do something, he gives me lip. I try sending him to his room, and I practically have to drag him there. I have tried grounding him, taking away his video game systems, taking away TV, etc. Im running out of options!

I do not like being sworn at by my children. I thought that I raised them better than this.

My 10 yr old swore at me the other day and I spanked him. I havent done it for a long time but I thought it was time for one. I do NOT believe this is abuse, but I still feel bad about it.

But my 12 yr old is getting a little too old for spankings. I just am running out of options. Help please! I dont want him going down the wrong path.. I am a firm believer in respect.

I have recently discovered that my daughter's teachers allow her 3, 4 and even 5 opportunities to turn in late work with NO penalties. I have also learned that the policy at the schools if a child fails a "core" class (English/Math/Science etc.,) they can take a test at the end of the year and if they pass THAT test they move on to the next grade. If they don't pass the test they can take summer school! What happened to getting a ZERO for late work and flat-out failing a grade when you didn't do your work? Are the schools scared of getting a failing grade with the No Child Left Behind Act that they are doing everything possible to pass kids now or are our schools getting lazier? My daughter is learning nothing but enabling behavior from this so tell me what good it really does?

Ok..I feel that its necessary to teach kids consequences at a very early age.

If my son (he is almost 1 year old) is trying to climb on something. I would look at him, and say "NO....you will FALL DOWN and get HURT..."

I make sure he will not get seriously injured, but I will let him fall.

Some people say I am wrong for doing this. That I should either spank him, or scream at him and just try to protect him....

I dont see what the big deal is...hes been walking for two months, he talks a little, he trusts me, he listens to me almost all the time (he learned those key words very fast)

Why do people think I need to make him afraid of me, or that I need to coddle him. Parents of older kids, do you see my method causing problems for my son down the line? Am I missing something?

Im 12 and just got off being in the worse trouble EVER for egging this one girls house me and my friends dont like becuase she so mean to my one friend. I had clean all the mess and got grounded for THREE months and the worse spanking of my life i was cryinhg for like a week! Does it seem like that fair or too much punishment? I dont think my friends got in trouble so bad.

What you do if you had girl who did that? I felt bad because i dont hate the girls family or anything but my friends had the idea.

I am writing a paper for my comp class about the benefits and detriments of daycare. I have already gotten the opinions of quite a few mothers with young children regarding their positions on daycare, but I'd like some more. So here are my questions:

First off, have you placed your child or children in daycare before?

If so, did you see any benefits/set-backs from it?

If you worked and found other means of child-sitting available, why did you choose these other means rather than a daycare?

Thank you in advance. Any good answers will be a huge help to me! :)

Please tell me what you think of cap guns. Are they dangerous? Do cap guns teach violence is okay? Does playing with a cap gun lead to the desire for a real gun? What age child child be allowed(or not allowed) to play with cap guns? Should there be any rules for playing with a cap gun? Are cap guns merely toys and children need no supervision with them?

Thanks for answering.

When I go to this baby group with my daughter all the ,moms talk about is when they will have to go back to work. They do not look at their kids or demonstrate affection. What is wrong with moms today, are they just more stressed? When my mom went to things like this ladies would have coffee together and support one another... teach each other to sew or cook...I know these days are gone but why can;t people be more friendly and warm?

I am just looking to see how many people actually do spank their children - I am not saying it is right or wrong, as I know that everyone has their own opinions.
I never spanked my daughter, and she has turned out wonderfully; very polite, loving and responsible.
Do you/did you ever spank your children?

Some women, usually it is women, treat their children as if they are dogs. They give them looks that would kill, tell them to shut up and act like they are afraid that people are going to feel as if the kids have no respect for them. Those poor kids must be afraid to move wrong. The looks are enough to make me afraid. If they act like this with theri kids in public, god knows what happens in private. Why does this happen? Insecurity?

I am thinking about homeschooling my daughter for at least the first few years maybe middleschool or even high school. I was just wondering what peoples opioins where about it. I my self went to public school and thought it was ridiculious, and I am fullaly capable to teach her...So why not right?

Exspecially due to all the violence, drugs, sex, and even shootings and bombs. What do you think??
