Not for kids under 18. If the child is over 18, they are old enough to live on their own and take responsibility for their own actions. If they decided to get pierced or tats, I would love them the same. I would just hope that it wouldn't be anything profane or advertising illegal acts and prevent them from obtaining work.

I do not mind it on people when it is done in taste. Though I think that it should only be done on people who are old enough or at legal age. When you are 18 or older you are responsible for your own actions. I have a small tattoo on my left shoulder.. it is there for ID purposes mostly. Though when I lose some or all of this weight I am thinking of adding alittle to it like my son's initials.. they will both have the same initials and I think would be nice.. but it will be tasteful and small. I am really afraid of the piercings and do not think I would ever get one. Do not understand how ANYONE would want to pierce their tongue.. it hurts to bad when you accidental bite it.. having hole in it.. OUCH!!

I am for reasonable piercings, ears and maybe the naval that's about it. For tattoos, I have 4 and I'm 19, soon to be 6 next month. I won't tell my kids not to get tattoos, but I won't let them get them until they are as old as I was when I got my first at 16. I would also make them know that they are expensive to remove if you get a stupid one, and if they want one before they are 18 they have to pay for it with their own money. I would also have to approve of the tattoo before they got it. Also I would not let them get it in a place that would make it hard for them to possibly get a job in the future, all of mine are in "hideable" places and until they are 18 they have to have it all approved by me, the place they get it, what they get, and who does the work. All of my tattoos have a meaning not just I got one because I could.

My stepdaughter who is 15 asked her dad if she could have her naval pierced. He said no but later that night we got to talking about it and my husband is 32 and im 21 so im just a little older than her and i remember quite well wanting to fit in and i also remember several girls in school doing it themselves and they got infected. She is a responsible girl and is really good in school and we let her do it. We took her and now she talks to me a little more openly about boys and even things like sex. We did say no to the tatoo she wants. Shes gonna have to wait till shes 18 buta naval ring. Its really not that big of a deal.

i don't like body piercing at all. it looks stupid and it can cause problems down the road when it comes to employment. i know it sounds crappy but it's true. my brother in law won't even pierce his ear b/c of the clientele where he works. it has to do with professionalism. i do like tattoos to a point. i don't like entire body work but a few tattoos are fine. under 18 - forget it. kid's tend to act on impulse. they don't really understand the consequence of their actions. what sounds good today usually isn't what they want in 3-5 yrs. after18 there is nothing i can do about it so if they do it they live with it.

my mom let me get tattoos and piercings before 18 and i will let my child do it. i got my first tatto at 15 im memory of my father who had just passed away. and i got my nose pierced at 14. i turned out fine. my mom made me work for the money to get it done though, and i think thats what stoped me from getting all crazy with it. i only got the tattoos or piercings that i was POSITIVE i wanted to get. she also made me tell her my reasons for wanting them and if my reasons were good enough then i could do it.

As a teenager, I am against it because kids are young and sometimes immature, when they are old enough to understand the complications and factors surrounding piercing and tattooes then they can do what they feel is right.
