Please tell me what you think of cap guns. Are they dangerous? Do cap guns teach violence is okay? Does playing with a cap gun lead to the desire for a real gun? What age child child be allowed(or not allowed) to play with cap guns? Should there be any rules for playing with a cap gun? Are cap guns merely toys and children need no supervision with them?

Thanks for answering.

Childrens Cap Guns

Well cap guns, mainly make a loud noise, don't think they can hurt you. A bb gun is a different story, it can shoot out something, myself was shot with one when I was young and have a scar in my forehead from one, so it can put out a eye or something. Any gun of sorts that is given to a child or even and adult should know the ground rules and that responsibility of owning one. If its a toy or real. Rules still should be shown and taught what is right from wrong. A cap gun is a toy, and as the child is taught respect it should be fine. A bb gun should have supervision for sure until the person is a responsible person.

I don't think that cap guns are dangerous as long as the child is supervised. I wouldn't mind my child playing with one once she turns 7, maybe 8.

BB guns on the other hand are more dangerous and can cause serious harm if aimed at a person, but I think a child of 10 or so, with hands-on supervision from an adult would be fine shooting at a target out in a field or vacant lot.

I guess my view of guns is probably swayed, because my brothers and I started shooting a shot gun and rifle with our dad at the age of 5. Hope this helped.

My personal experience is any gun is dangerous in the wrong hands. I do not believe that a child of any age should have any type of gun. Guns are not toys and need to handle with care and with a responsible person. Children make mistakes and any form of gun can be a danger to them and any one else that may be around. If you as a parent decide to let your child have a cap or MM (any other form) gun then there should be an responsible adult with them at the time of usage.

cap guns can burn a child's hand when it sparks (not bad enough for blisters it is just a little warm ) my 5 year old has one and the rules are
1 not in the house
2 me or his daddy helps with it

BB guns are a little dangerous i would say 10 years to get one you can shoot someone with one and it hurts

as far as it pushing violence i don't think so !!!!!
if a BB gun is being used i think it should be under supervision of the adult they are for shooting cans and learning aim for a REAL GUN for hunting purposes not for killing people
i am raising my kids that way

It really depends. I'd suggest that you most definitely not get your child a cap gun before age 7. If your child is over that age, then it's up to you to decide whether or not your child will understand that REAL guns are dangerous and bad.

I don't know very much about cap guns, so I wouldn't know much about rules for them, though I do know that there is a burning hazard and they should be used with adult/older kid supervision.

And MAKE SURE you let your child know that violence isn't good!

Research on the weapon effect suggests that the mere image of a gun is enough to activate aggressive thoughts and behaviors under some circumstances. (Keep in mind that this hypothesis has been supported in somewhat artificial laboratory studies with college students, but if it's your child's behavior that you're concerned about, why take any chances?)

So toy guns of any kind can make some children think and act in more aggressive ways.

My 3-yr-old son has had several dollar store cap guns...they break easily. They are not dangerous unless you load caps in them, and if you choose to do this, you start teaching the kid to be safe with them. Gun safety is a good iddea no matter how old a child is. With our son it has been "guns are meant to kill things, you only shoot gophers, sometimes deer, hunting helps us feed our family," etc. Also, "we don't shoot people at all". And he has lost his guns for "shooting" people.
Real guns are not bad (no matter what the democrats and the Canadian Liberal Party tell you). In fact, it is not a bad idea to learn how to use them, clean them,, take care of them, respect them, store them, and so on. The more your child is educated on firearm safety, the better chance he has if one of his idiot classmates pulls one out. Really!

Yes, capguns are toys, and yes, children do require supervision with them, as with water pistols, bicycles, and any other toy or activity.
