This is never fun, esp. if she has thick hair. Just wash with the shampoo, and comb with a nit comb. That is the tedious part. Getting all the nits out. You are doing the rest correctly. If she has stuffed animals they recommend putting them in bags (like those giant zip lock bags), and putting them away for about a week. Get all pillow cases, sheets, blankets and wash in very hot water. I think the recommendation is to rewash the hair in 7-10 days to kill any lice that may have hatched from the nits that you didn't get through the first time. Other members of the household will need to be checked as well. Good luck hon. I wish you the best. And for those who don't know, don't badger this woman......lice doesn't discriminate....they infest the heads of the rich, poor, clean and unclean!!!

I have had foster children that have been brought to me with lice and worms so I have had experience with this.
# 1. lice can't jump from one head to another it's just from putting your head in a place where a person just had there's like a couch or chair, it's trying on hats at the store, it's sharing hair accessories, it's kids sharing hats or playing to closely that their shoulders or hair is touching.
#2 You can have the cleanest house in the world and you or your child can bring home lice.
#3 Washing your hair with the Rid shampoo is not enough. You also need to set your child down and actually part her hair into super small sections and with your fingernails pull out the eggs. Because the shampoo may not kill all of them. Unless you have a boy then it's easier to just shave his head. And have someone check your head as well and do the same treatment to your head. This is a long process but well worth it. Also put the eggs in an old cup with hot water so you can flush them and throw the cup away.
#4 Wash all clothes, bedding, pillows, and anything else you can think of.
#5 Put all stuffed animals in a black trash bag and leave it there for at least 2-3 weeks.
#6 Get the spray and spray your couch, beds, chairs, everything.
#7 You can buy lice combs at the store without buying the shampoo. Do this and check everyone's head often. The earlier you catch it the easier it is to get rid of.

having a clean house has nothing to do with lice. You can get lice from the person standing to close to you at the grocery store. First before you start cleaning the house washing sheets, vaccuuming the sofa's and so forth make sure your little girls hair is free of lice and its eggs {and every one elses in the house}. Use Rid I heard that works well, and then run that comb thing through to get any of the eggs. My friend had a little girl that got lice 3 times in a month while out playing with a friend and she went through this each time. Luckily its not come back.

There are different brands of lice shampoos. RID is one of them. Along with the shampoo there are sprays to spray things down with in the house. You can boil hairbrushes in water for a few seconds to help to keep from spreading them that way. Wash all the bedding after shampooing hair. Be sure to follow the instructions on the shampoo. DO NOT use conditioner because then the comb will just slide over the eggs (nits) and not get them out. And I feel sorry for you. I have very very thick hair and got it a couple of times when I was a child.
If you are not sure if she has them. Check her head to see. The eggs are kind of shiny and cling to the hairs close to the roots. Unlike dandruff if you blow on them or rub your hand across it, it will not fall. It stays on the hair. And unfortunately, if there are eggs, there are bugs (which you may not see until you treat and they are dead and fall out). If you are still unsure, then treat her hair anyway. It doesn't hurt. Actually, I still treat mine from time to time because it strips your hair of residue and makes it VERY shiny. Best to treat everyone in the house.
Doctors can prescribe stronger stuff than over the counter if you feel the need.
Good luck to you.

Rid is a popular lice shampoo, but you can get Kwell shampoo with a prescription if you want insurance to cover part of the cost. Generally your pediatrician will order it over the phone, so you don't need to schedule a visit. At least that's been my experience. And with 10 kids, I've had lots of experience, unfortunately.

Some of the lice treatments cam be harmful to a persons health. There have been alot of complants filed with the FDA. Something made with natural ingredints is safer. Heres a website with natural products. it also tells you what to do to get rid of lice and prevent it. Check it out.
