My kids (ages 5 and 3) had a playdate yesterday with a 6-year-old friend. The kids had fun making mud pies and playing fort. Muddy toys ended up scattered all over the yard.

When it was time for the friend to go home, I gave the kids a 5 minute warning that it would be time to clean up and then friend would have to go home. In 5 minutes, I said it was time to clean up and gave specific directions of what kids should do to help clean up.

Kids kept playing. Despite several different approaches I took, kids did very little and complained a lot. The friend was the lead instigator of the complaints.

I got mad at my kids and scolded them. I walked the friend back across the street and told her that I expect her to help clean up when she comes to play, but did not force her to help finish the clean-up.

After friend was gone, I gave my kids a big scolding.

What do you do when kids' friends come over? Are they responsible to clean up at your house? What do you do with other people's kids

My friends mother constantly beats her daughter with a belt as a form of discipline. I think its rather stupid, why? because her daughter took the time to clean and wash and polish the bathrooms of her house, then what happens? she gets beat with a belt and yelled inappropriate things, the reason? her mother says " you ****** did it all wrong". her mother, is a very nice lady, she lets her daughter go to the movies, she pays for it, they go shopping and everything. but then, her mother gets sudden mood swings and starts yelling and hitting her with metal spoons, belts, sandals, sticks, cell phone chargers, and one time she almost through a laptop at her when her daughter was only 9!!!!! All her life she's treaten her daughter since she was 8 like an adult, saying really rude things and hitting her. she says its a form of discipline, i think not because it is against the law and is considered " physical abuse". she also suffers lots of emotional abuse (the daughter) and....

To paint you a picture, I am 21 (Female) and live with my boyfriend in an apartment in London. He owns and operates several companies with his fathe and we live very nicely. We have a huge family and lots of friends. I have in the last few months being seeing some odd things in my boyfriend that seem to have come out of the blue. I will list them.

He has a phobia of tissues and if there is one on our table in restaurant he will get someone to take it away. Also at home.

I have seen him lock our door and then unlock and lock it again is if counting the times he does it. He has to touch things a certain amount of time and seems to get annoyed with himself when doing it.

Making sure our fridge door is shut all the time by pushing it.

I have also discovered soap in a case in a jacket pocket and packets of wipes.

It seems he is on edge all the time and looking round the room all the time.

There are lots of other things. When I mention it he just dismisses it as nothing.

That if a married couple can`t have children through no fault of their own and decide to adopt that they have do so much to prove themselves financially, emotionally, mature enough and that their marriage is secure to have a child, when there are people out there that have kids when they are far too young, no job live off benefits, have lots of different partners and are not mature enough to give the child support.

I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. Between cleaning, cooking and taking care of the kids needs I am feeling tired and overwhelmed. It seems like I never, ever get time alone and if I do it's always to do a chore. I just want to know if I'm being a baby or is this normal?

ok...bad situation. my child's father is an alcoholic, deals and does drugs since we split, and he beats his other child (beyond just disaplin) neither of us have custody, he has no visitation. doesn't bother with the child cause he says the baby is too young,,, my problem, i don't want him to get visitaion cause i fear for my child. i am thinking of leaving state to avoid the whole visitation thing. i am married now and my child sees my husband as "daddy". on a legal stand point, is there anything the biological father can do? to either stop me from leaving or possibly make me come back to our home state.

I know they were invented for a useful reason, indicating to fire crews that there is a child on board in case of an accident, but now people leave them in all the time. Pointless.
And now there are ones that say 'Back off, baby on board'. Are they assuming I'm a reckless driver and will listen to their preaching?
Seems to me me they just want to boast about about their family fertility and general superiority.
Sorry, but they're tossers.

I have five kids, 10, 8, 6, 5, and 5 months. I put them to bed. Do the whole nightly routine, drink bathroom story, and they keep coming out. I've tried everything except tying them to their beds. How do I get it through their heads that bedtime doesn't mean wander around the house? They are especially bad about it if they know their dad isn't coming home.

Last week my cousin ran into the pharmacy to get her perscription and left her infant in a unlocked car with the air conditioning running. The police gave her a ticket for child neglect. She seemed shocked and at the time didn't understand why she was in so much trouble. She is very aware now that she was wrong. We are also well aware that she made a very very bad decision, so please dont respond if you want to just bash her. She has no defense and I am not making excuses for her. I am looking for information on what will happen now, or what the punishment is for this charge. Will she need a lawyer? Does anyone know how this will work?
As for now we are looking for a parenting class in hopes that she will not make other serious mistakes. If you have any info on parenting and parenting safety classes in Montgomery County MD, we would appreciate that as well.
