It takes a lot of time and energy to monitor what your child watches on TV. In order to do this you have to be Actively involved in the up-bringing of your child. Parents who don't do this probably see TV as a means to keep their children busy so they DON'T have to interact with them. They obviously have no concept of the responsibility involved in having children.

The FCC help us on weekend mornings, my child is old enough to let ma and pa have a sleep in day ( until 8am) on Saturday, but other than that, we carefully monitor our childs viewing. He gets upset when we don't let him watch alot of stuff, when all his friends do, but I grew up with my parents monitoring what I see on TV, although I hated it at the time, I am really thankful now. The FCC doesn't have the same standards as most parents, and something that they rate as ' c' ( where we live that is appropriate for all ages) sometimes I feel needs to be rated a bit higher.

I monitor my kids' television watching like a Nazi. Some of the shows targeted at children these days are completely inappropriate. The members of the FCC are morons, the whole lot of them.

Because it's easier to plug them in and walk away than to *gasp* talk to them, monitor them, or watch TV with them. And of course we all know that the FCC is much more likely to know your personal feelings on each and every show on TV than you are. So of course they should make that decision for you.

I see what you are saying. As a mother of 5, I seriously regulate what my kids are allowed to watch on TV. If they want to watch it, i watch it first to see if it is appropriate or not. Sometimes they get mad at me but oh well.
I think too many parents just sit their kids in front of the TV, hand them the remote, and say "here ya go, have fun."
I won't do that.
I even monitor what they are allowed to do and see on the Internet.

Most of my friends don't care about what a movie is rated and let their 2 year olds onwards watch m15+. Mine on the other hand don't get much tv and nothing above PG and even then not many PG.
