The generations that are our grandparents now almost all were spanked. The majority of them don't seem to have turned out violent, or lacking in self esteem. In fact, it seems that our culture has gotten more violent as a whole recently, since spanking has become unpopular.

There is a difference between abuse and spanking. I'm talking about sitting with a child, explaining the punishment and spanking, NOT hauling off and hitting your child in anger as soon as they do something wrong.

All answers appreciated.

hug or kiss me without her yelling "My mommy" or trying to push him away. We have another little girl due about a week before she turns two and I know there are more obstacles of jealousy yet to come. Any suggestions on how to help her cope. (Not to mention I can't even get her out of the middle of our bed at night)

To spank or not to spank, that is the question........My 9yr. old son has been pinching the baby since he was 3mos. now he's 5mos. The baby would scream and my 9yr. old would say he just started screaming well yesterday I caught him for the first time and handled it, but I just want to know how other parents would've handled the situation.

I've noticed that consignment sales are popping up all over the place. And you get more money for your stuff at them! Like 70% as opposed to the consignment stores, but the sale only lasts for 2-3 days and you tag your own stuff? Is it worth the effort to make the extra 20%?
Has anyone shopped at the consignment sales?

How many girls learnt about periods like the horrific opening scene in the film Carrie?

See the film... The girl had no idea what was going on, freaked naturally thinking she was dying as peers just laughed in her face due to a relgiously moral mother keeping her in the dark

I know this girl back home who wasnt very intelligent. She slept with a married man and got pregnant. He never wanted to be with her and never loved her. He left her while she was pregnant and wasn't there for the birth of the baby. He was only around for a couple months after the baby was born and then left town for a better life away from her. She had lied to him before about being pregnant with his kid. He has told her more than once that he doesn't want anything to do with her or the baby and odesnt love her. She still continues to tell her baby that her daddy loves her. WHY? He even told her he didnt want the girl knocking on his door in 18 years. Why would the mother try to convince the baby he loves her,it is just going to hurt her more when she grows up and understands the situation or trys to contact him and he wants nothing to do with her. THen she is going to be mad at her mom for lying to her.

ok only the two options available...One your does drugs and alcohol and you know about it or Two they do it and try to hide it from you...which do you prefer and why....ok now there is no third option "my kids a good kid and not going to do those things at all" ok for those of you saying that pull your head out of where ever it is and wake up only about 5-10% of kids are going to take that path so your going to be one of the other two...and think about it i have see n this many many times a kids at a party getting pretty gone and all of a sudden mom and dad call and say you better get home right now its curfew well now kid must go home however there isn't any sober ppl at party so kids faced with dilemma go home which entails getting into a car with a less than sober person (whether it be himself or someone else) or stay at party and have parents go nuts well most of the time they get a ride home and if they’re lucky they won't get in an accident and DIE so which is it one or two?

Why do parents think talking about sex will make teens what to do it & keeping them in the dark will stop them?

Hav

I mean do they actually think a teenager boy will never get a hardon or find girls boobs facinating and girls wont feel the need to kiss someone with muscells if kept in the dark?

Ie its about fancying someone not what you have been told...

Ie lets prove it with an experiment...

Get the campest gay going (in th Uk possibly Graham Norton).

Give him some porn magazines and a video, a packet of condoms hell how about a male pill and a sex ed lesson and see if we can turn him straight and want to be with girls.

Oh and in the past people still gort pregant but were taken away to aunty whatsit the 'back steet abortionist' or imprisoned in a magdelen laundry to be abused and tortured...for life where friends were told she had gone to live elsewhere, DIY abortions. Dying in the process or parents saw to it their daughters had 'unfortunate accidents'

How about the Absent parents (usually fathers) that left their children in the first place, why don't people slate them!!

When my daughter puts her mind to it she is very capable and does excellent, neat, complete school work; she can be very responsible but... More times than not, she chooses to do her homework very sloppy (you can barely read it sometimes), she refuses to put her papers in her folder so they're all wrinkled, she doesn't show me certain papers the teacher sends home so then I get nasty phone calls from the teacher.

I talk, reason and explain to her the importance of neat and complete work; I lead by example to no avail. She has always been this way, it's nothing new. I love my daughter, but I am beginning to feel she is old enough now to reap what she sows. I'm feeling like may be I should let her do her "thing" and as a result she may not move on to the next grade; then may be the embarrassment will shape her up for the years to come. What do you all think?
