my daughter is almost 2 and she whines ALL THE TIME. okay, so i know she's a toddler and that's what they do, but this is just ridiculous. i've never seen a child her age whine as much as she does. she's not spoiled so i know that's not part of the problem. i try to ignore it sometimes bc i know they say if you ignore it they will eventually realize they aren't getting anywhere w/ it and will stop it. but i just can't deal w/ all this whining. sometimes i'll tell her to stop whining and say "i want.." and she will do that and say what it is she wants, but that doesn't work every time. disciplining her doesn't help, telling her to stop does nothing and neither does time out or smacking her on the butt. i've about had it and something's gotta change. any ideas?

My 8 year old son is all of a sudden scared at night. He claims to have had a couple of bad dreams and doesn't like to be alone. Anyone else encounter this problem? It has only been going on for a couple of months now. I sit with him at night and give him funny stories to think about while he is trying to fall asleep. He also has a night light. It seems to work pretty well, but he still begs to sleep in our room. What can I do to make him feel more secure?

My little boy is 11 months old but his favorite toy is this little hard plastic doll. The doll is my neices but he wont give it up. He isn't mean to the doll he is actually very loving he gives the baby doll kisses and hugs and is very affectionate. But it has gotten to the point that he wont go to bed without this doll. Is there anything i should be worried about?

We have two dogs. They are my daughters buddy's. She has had them all of her life. We recently found out she among other things is allergic to dogs. We can keep the dogs but she has to be on meds. What would you do?

My niece is 6 years old and is starting 1st grade. She is over my house everyday and I babysit her all the time, she practically lives at my house. I am only 15 but I am her only older female role-model. She tends to get on my nerves. She talks CONSTANTLY even while she is in her bed and everyone else is trying to sleep in a different room, or when she is in the bath. She will just go up to random people in the store and literally tell them her life story (stuff like her dad getting girls pregnant and other inappropriate stuff). When someone gives her a gift, instead of saying thank you, she will yell "mine" and hug the gift. And i try to correct her when she does stuff like that, but it is constant! I think it is because she has a low self esteem. But i am not sure. She will likely be in the dance class that i teach next year, and I don't know if i am going to be able to deal with her and the other kids in the class too.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I realize that if I had children or any medical issues, I would not be able to make it financially without resorting to a government handout.

How do you do it?

Is it me but do some parents take this rule a little too much to heart? The other day outside the Publix while a mother was loading her groceries into her breeder mobile...cough....minivan.... the lady's kid asked a cop sitting in his car next to her van how old his K-9 in the backseat was. Well.....I thought for a second that lady saw the devil, man did she go off on that kid for speaking to a stranger in this case a cop. I don't know about you guys but seriously a cop!!!! I don't see the harm in talking to a cop as a small child. In the long run I think people who teach their kids not to talk to strangers are setting up their kids to spend their adult lives being afraid of people and becoming anti-social. Stop teaching your children to view everybody as wrong/right, black/white and teach your kids some god damn judgement and critical thinking skills. Very few strangers are out to get your kids. The news media unfortunately brain washes you to think other.

I was reading about the benefits of reading to your baby as soon as he or she is born.

Experts say babies should be read to as newborns because it helps with their educational development.

Did or do any of you read to your baby?

What do you think about reading to a newborn?

went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom,
so I had a sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
that I didn't drink and drive,
though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right.
The party finally ended,
and the kids drove out of sight.

I got int o my car,
Sure to get home in one piece.
I never knew what was coming, Mom,
something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
the kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
this girl is going to die.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high.
Because he chose to drink and drive,
now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
like a hundred stabbing knives.

Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven,
put " Mommy's Girl" on my grave.

Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter,
Mom I'm getting really scaredThese are my final moments,
and I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mom,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, "I love you, Mom!"
So I love you and good-bye

My daughter (3yrs.) has cut her hair a couple of times at school and today-after it finally grew out enough to put into ponytails-she found some scissors still packed in a box from our move and cut her whol ponytail off!! Every time she has done this at school it's always really short too. Do you think she's showing a prefrance for a short hair do?? It sucks that she cut it, but it'll grow back, but should I let it? Anyone else have a 3 year old wanting short hair?

I have asked questions concerning my step kids on here, and have basically been told by a lot of people that I am the problem not the kids. They say that I am the intruder, and the kids are just victims. Some have said that I shouldn’t have married my husband if I couldn’t accept his kids. When I married my husband he wasn’t seeing his kids. He hadn’t in a year. This was partly due to his ex’s interference, but partly due to him not standing up to her. He didn’t even see them again for 3 years. I had been his wife for 3 years by then and had had a child by him. His other 3 kids are manipulators. Their mother has made them this way, and they try to manipulate my husband all the time. They are not just innocent victims. My husband and his ex split up when the oldest was only 3 and she was still pregnant with the youngest, so they are not dealing with the recent divorce of their parents, they don’t even remember it. Why is it always believed that if a step mom doesn’t get along with her step kids that it is her fault, and that the kids are the innocent victims? Trust me, some of these kids don’t want to get along with their step moms, even though she has done nothing to them.
